Finishing up the Lock Laces job on the last two pairs of shoes was done today. So, scissors and hook again. I used the bottle opener/large screwdriver to pry open one of the plastic pieces on the end that had popped off, and first try sucessfully stabbed my thumb--D'Oh!      I also used the scissors on the probiotic.

Here it is with an old spear-point fixed blade my great-granddad made. Steel is from an old cross-cut saw, seems hardened to where it's hard, yet still tough and a little flexible. Handle looks crude, but was obviously made to perfectly fit his hand (and mine too, since we all have the same hand shape in my family) It took a lot of cleaning to get it to this state. My grandmother had been using it as a paint scraper, and nearly wrecked it. I confiscated it last time we painted the porch and cleaned it up. Needs a better edge put on it, it's near blunt now.  I also have one he made that's a lot more refined than this, also hand made, more of in a butcher style. And better kept, my grandfather's brother used it to dress deer, after he passed away, his collection was split up between the men in the family (I ended up getting a couple old hand forged knives, two Bokers, a Case 6265, Buck 110, a Gerber LST, and a ton of assorted cheapo knives). My great-grandfather used them and a huge 12" bladed Dexter to dress hogs he raised for meat.

Working today so no turkey pics :D.   A little snack to hold me over until I get home.  With some crackers and cheese it's actually really good!

Opening packs of descaling agents at work. Those can be nasty things when you dont have somehing sharp at hand. No problem with Mr. Huntsman.

Besides beeing monogamic for the month I had the desire to cheat yesterday. There was my beloved SI sitting on my desk. Oh dudes, that was a hard moment. Maybe

Happy Thanksgiving! I tried in vain to be allowed to use the can opener, but wasn't. Last time I heavily used the can opener tool was when buying a store brand version of Chef Boyardee and Spahgetti-O's, which unlike the real thing, used regular type cans. Every time I opened up a can of stuff to heat it up, I used my SAK. Never figured out how to use manual or electric standard can openers. But the SAK is second nature.

Today, can opener SD tip trying to repair an old tape measure (made a mess out of it) and scissors.

Ambulance was a promo for our now former volunteer rescue squad. These were sold to raise funding and replicates one they used to take to local fairs (which was originally a Princeton WV unit that never saw use here, but their first ambulance was a cool-looking IH Travelall based rig) .They ran into financial difficulties a couple years ago, as did the one in the neighboring town, and the county had to bail them out. They're now Tazewell County EMS Station 1.

Day 22
Happy Thanksgiving to all of us in the United States.  Happy Thursday to the rest of you.  Getting ready for a feast here.  Had two smokers going and, at the time of the photo, getting ready to fire up the turkey fryer.  The menu included pork belly, two standing rib roasts, a duck, a fried turkey, ham, green beens, grilled asparagus with a coconut dressing, green been casserole, stuffing, mashed summer squash, potatoes with cheese, pumpkin and apple pies, and of course we had cranberry sauce, but it was from a can. My mother's home made cranberry sauce is so much better.  I ate hours ago and I just got home. I'm still so stuffed my belly feels like a basketball.
