Day 29:

This may sound a bit convoluted......

I wanted to make a suspension system for some skewers to use with my little grill. I've put skewers directly on the integral grating that comes with the grill, but this often ends up with the skewers sticking to the grating. The obvious solution (to me anyway) is to eliminate the grating and just suspend the skewers over the fire. The problem here is that my skewers are a wee bit too short to use on the grill directly.

So....today I got a long piece of 1" flat stock. I used the Huntsman's awl (I've finally gotten to the 'point' of the story.) to scribe a cut line on the mild steel, and then a hacksaw to divide the flat stock into two equal portions. (You didn't think I was going to use the Huntsman's saw to make that cut, did you?)

So I now have two pieces of flat stock from which I can suspend my skewers for even, non-stick grilling.

Another Huntsman victory. Beef kebabs are planned for later tonight!  :ahhh

Blade opened the mail, scissors cut my fingernails, and hook helped me get off my watch (really, I hate the OD green band that came on this Garrison, which the guy that got it from Roush put on it to replace the rubber stock band(these were only given to employees) must have had HUGE wrists, as my holes are punched almost an inch from the closest factory hole). I'm still deciding what--I'm deciding between putting a metal clasp or a NATO band on it). Things it didn't do: the Sebertool M3 adjusted my belt buckle's hook, and the Shield opened some sacks of corn for the sheep (easier to clean with only one blade).

Looking like a launch for the mighty Swisschamp Challenge early next year.  All are most definitely welcome!  Thanks to everybody who participated in the Huntsman Challenge...I always love seeing all the creative used everyone comes up with!  Steve C had a gorgeous badge done up for this, which I think everyone will love.  Last day is here....post em up one last time!

So a photo of the Huntsman with usage. I did manage to put a dig into the side of the scale and usual light scratch’s.

Huntsman 30 day review...
I will say that this SAK has lived up to all its expectations. Well made, excellent craftsmanship. It is the right size in my hand. I can slice apples and have no problems with it. The tool selection is very good. The main blade and sissors where the two must used tool used on the Challenge. The wood saw is just great, and will eat wood better than anything. I have found that as I get older the magnifying glass might be a very nice addition. The other addition...I wish it was available in Alox. It is going into my hiking pouch that always go’s with me anytime I go into the woods.
It was a great Challenge.

Ray, it sounds like an original Woodsman I'd what you could use.   There's a thread dedicated to them here.  Check it out!

Day 30. I have thoroughly enjoyed carrying a Huntsman again after a long time ignoring it in favour of other SAKs. As ever these Challenges prove what's to like about these tools and reveal just how creative you can be to get the job done. I did think that the Huntsman was going to be a nuisance to carry all through but it has sat comfortably in my pocket without causing complaint. Today I've simply opened some post with the main blade but I've been confident that I could turn to the Huntsman to cover most tasks without having to think. No doubt about it the Huntsman is a reliable friend.  :hatsoff:
