Someone, somewhere on this forum posted an Executive mod where they took the orange peeler and made it into a bottle opener.

Yes  It was refrenced and linked earlier in the thread.   :tu:.  Pretty sweet mod it is.

OK, this may get me thrown out of the Executive Lounge, but here is my story:

I decided to do the bottle opener mod to the orange peeler. I didn't really trace the cutout nicely like Crackout did and kinda just hacked at it and held it up to a bottle capped beer. I was aware that the tool was getting hot and periodically held it under cold running water. When it finally started to hook nicely on the cap, I had to celebrate with a beer ::)  It lifted the cap nicely but in doing so it also bent the backspring. I'm pretty sure the spring must have been very hot for this to have happened   Not a huge loss since I had bought it used on the bay of E for around $12 and was able to pick up an even cheaper one that was missing scales that could be replaced with the ones on this damaged Executive. Still a bummer and worries me a bit that maybe the backspring, even cold, isn't up to the task

I think what might have helped in breaking the spring was the way you used it. When opening a bottle, you should apply the force where the orange peeler pin is, not on the end of the handle. When force is applied on the end of the handle, it puts more tension in the spring. Was this what happened?

I was thinking along the same lines  :iagree:.  Apply pressure to the spine of the opener.  Bummer this happened tho.

I'm not 100% sure but I think I held it close to the pin

I have another used Executive coming that is in so-so shape that I intend to try this again with.
