My axe collection and a little info on them

From left to rigth:
1. Fiskars X5. Tiny little axe. Perfect for light camping and hiking
2.Japaneese splitting axe. (not a very good one.)
3.Hultafors handmade camping axe. The first axe I ever bought. Perfect when I'm canoing.
4. Wetterlings carpenters bile. Razor sharp axe with knifelike edge. Use it for ruffshaping wood before i start wittling.
5. Øyo splitting axe super. Norwegian made axe. Very disapointed with it, especially when I discovered that axe nr 6 vas way better than it.
6. A beaten up old axe that the old owners of my house left behind. Use it for all kinds of dirty work.
7. Granfors Bruks large forresters axe. Brilliant axe. My wife gave it to me for christmas after I cursed axe nr 5 to hell. Use it mostly for splitting chopped wood into firestarting wood for the fireplace that keeps us warm all thru winter.
8. Hard Head cheap forresters axe. For splitting larger firewood when i need more wheigt in the axe. (2,3kg head) and demolising old furniture and such.

I forgot one axe in my collection picture.

Its a cheap one that have in my work car. Its mostly used for breaking ice in the back of my pickup, breaking padlocks and as a makeshift hammer.

Every now and then  >:D
Every now and then some punks has attemted to pick/break the locks on one of the containers at work and broken it or someone has used a non serial lock and lost the key. Its usually a lot cheaper to just break the lock than to spend hours finding the key.

Great! I like to join the club! I have a couple of GB (mini, forrest) and Øyo (fireaxe).

I would love to have a carving axe..

Few years ago I forged this little hatchet. It was my first try, with the help from a friendly blacksmith. Sadly it's another unfinished project..I still have to start finishing it!

I wasn't counting the handle as they are a transient thing, the head lives on  :D

It will be good to see it finished  :tu:

You know what Sparky, I like working leather at the moment, so this is a great change to make a pretty leather mask as well  :)
Once I start polishing/etching the head, I really hope to find some sort of pattern.
I need a beltgrinder!

I have a few 'works in progress' in my garage, lots of things started but not finished  :-[

After you have polished the head will you etch it to find the grain of the Damascus steel?

Maybe we can see some of your leatherwork aswell?  :tu:

Here is a pic of an undercutter axe. These were made for a short time when chainsaws first came out. These were used to free up the chain saw when it bound up making the undercut. After the problems with the early chain saws were corrected these axes were no longer needed.
This example is a True American made by the Mann Edge Tool Co. It is kind of rough and some one else tried to clean and polish it. It is still a good example of the undercutter axe and I'm pleased to have it in my axe collection.    :)

Tony, I have no plans to rehandle it at the moment. The undercutter axes are fairly rare. They didnt make very many of them. They were only used for a few years mostly in the Pacific northwest. This one came from Oregon.
