All Quiet...

I'll post this a few hours early, as I'll hopefully still be asleep when it actually occurs (5am, my time).

Tomorrow, November 11th, at 11am Paris time (UTC+1) will be the 100th anniversary of when the guns fell silent on the western front.

I've been thinking a lot about this lately. There is something about the scale of the tragedy that was that war (and really most of the 20th century that flowed from it) that is depressing. $:-\$

So here's to the memory and honor of the millions who were killed in that terrible conflagration. I pray that the guns stay silent and that man's hubris and folly be diminished.

I also don't want to forget about the 7 million civilians who died as a direct cause of the war. (This is also a very conservative estimate, goes up to over 100 million if you include other events that happened because of the war).

They got caught in the cross hairs without much of a choice in the matter.

Too often we forget the civilian losses of the wars, any wars, because they are always the ones who lose the most!
