Inside of 111 mm dual density scales

I've just spent over 20 minutes Googling for a picture of the inside of Victorinox Dual Density scales, like the ones on a Hunter XT.

I know they are not the most interesting scales. But I came up with a crazy idea and I need to know how much space there is inside of the DD scales.

My Slide Lock Hercules has beat up scales and I went looking for a replacement. SL scales are not hard to find and initially I wanted to replace it with red scales, like the ones it has now.
Then the crazy idea popped in my head and I thought about putting orange DD scales on it. But DD does not exist in SL.
But looking at the mechanism I think it should be possible to cut out the slot for the slider.
Looking at this image (courtesy of enki_ck) I think it would be possible.

Shouldn't be to much trouble to add a slider I think.
The available depth in the scale is a gamble, but a gamble I'm willing to take.
Perhaps it's possible to file down the sides of the slide bit. I'll see. It's a gamble I'm willing to take.

Slide lock and liner lock knives have different size pins and, I assume, different size bushings that the scales attach to.  You might find that the dual density scales won't stay on.

Looks like you’d also have to build the walls around the area that the slider sets in.

I don’t know anything about the pins, but might be best to find a few beat up regular scales to practice on and perfect the setup?

The other question is are you dead set on retaining the slide lock feature?

It could be used as a regular slip joint...

The slide lock scale also needs some small raised walls for the slider spring to be retained.

I'm aware of the 'rail' that the sllider needs. However, think the opening would offer enough guidance of itself.
The pin to lock the spring has a higher priority.
However, my plan is to make an insert that slots over the middle lock hole in the scale. Perhaps a drop of glue to hold it in place.
If I make a separate insert it's easy to make without messing up the scale.

It's still a gamble. If I have to cut through the rubber material I guess the durability will less than I'd like.
I'm going to see if I can make it work, but if it's a recipe for disaster I'm going to save the orange scales for a OH Sentinel with corkscrew or Alpineer.

Exactly my idea.
As I wrote I think that the hole itself is guidance enough for the slider. However, If I make an insert like SwissBianco did on his 111 mm poocketclip I can make appropriate cut-outs and a spring retainer to keep everything in place.

I have one of those clips on my Centurion. Just wish it was a deeper carry...  off topic, I know!

the easy solution would be to cut the rectangle piece out of the slide lock scale and then insert it into a cutout of the outside dimension of the slidelock rectangle and you're good to go.

That's actually a pretty good idea. I was thinking of cutting a piece of metal, but why go through all the hassle. At least I can use it as a template.

I till have to place my order by the way. Decembers shopping is a bit taxing on my bank account and maybe I'll have to wait until January.
Yesterday I took a closer look at my Hercules () and figured that I don't really like the orange Dual Density on them.

Apart from that I did some research and made an overlay in Photoshop.
It's very likely that the hole has to be cut through the rubber material of the DD scale.
Which will result in durability issues I think.

I think it's possible to mod a DD to a slide, but it'll come at a cost.
Looking at this seems very much possible to pull this off on printed scales, like the 111mm camo scales.
I'm not really sure what to do at the moment.
