What I found and how much is this worth?
on: December 06, 2008, 05:23:05 PM
Earlier tonight while in Seoul, I went to an underground "shopping mall" (very many of those here) near Seoul city hall.

I went to a shop that sells luggage and lots of odds and ends.  He had LOTS of new and used Victorinox SAK's for sale: Swiss Champs (red and blue scales, one translucent blue scaled one as well), Hunter, Hercules, Ranger with Camping logo, Camper, Pioneers, Swiss Champ Timekeeper (analog), Huntsman Plus, and one Victorinox with a butan lighter (not sold in the USA), etc.

One was UNUSUAL: not an Angler, not a Fisherman.  This one, however, had the Pices logo.  Had the normal fishing set up, with corkscrew...HOWEVER, this one had scissors AND pliers.  This is not catalogged.  Anyone have a clue?

Second unusual one: a Trekker/Trailmaster (not OH opening) that had the markings on the blade, reverse of the standard Victorinox stamping, DE and then some numbers. Military issue at one time?

Now, the JUICY part, the set I bought, NIB by the way: 1884-1984 Champion and Classic set, red/crimson box from the 1980's.  The box and the scales on both knives are marked in this way: blacksmith logo, 1884, older Victorinox logo (with the bird on it), 1984, Huntsman SAK opened up, then VICTORINOX under 1884-bird logo-1984.  All in silver print.
The Champion is serial numbered: 13628, location of the SN is in the corkscrew recess (corkscrew has the groove in it, not solid like today).  Blade is marked in the usual manner, but no other markings.  Classic is not SN'ed.  Has the Champion instruction leaflet (similar to the one I have back in the States that came with the first Champion I ever bought back in 1986, i.e. green paper, features, how to use the can opener, etc).  Also, a small leather pouch is included for use with the Classic.  Both knives have the Swiss cross and shiled on the opposite side (i.e. corkscrew side, like the Marlboro SAK's) due to the huge 1884-1984 logo on it.

Someone already has a thread on this.....

Price I paid for the set: 72,000 Won.  At 1450 Won to the dollar, that comes to about $49.50.  When the seller told me that, of course I grabbed my wallet!!!

Comments?

BTW, the knives have NEVER been used, box in perfect shape, scales still glossy, etc.  Will update with pics shortly.

Sounds like a good find. I picked up a vintage spartan recently with the logo on the corkscrew side with no other logo on the regular side. Welcome to the forum again.

Agree.  If you don't want to keep it, I'd buy it from you.

Regardless, I'd love to see pictures of some of these gems.   :climber:

The 100th Anniversary set sold for 75$+ on ebay (I saw it twice in the last year). Last week or so the was a spartan with 1884-1984 sold for about 50$ (not include shipment). that is a great deal you got.

ANYONE have a clue on this one:  One was UNUSUAL: not an Angler, not a Fisherman.  This one, however, had the Pices logo.  Had the normal fishing set up, with corkscrew...HOWEVER, this one had scissors AND pliers.  This is not catalogged.  Anyone have a clue?

Features: corkscrew, punch, I think it had the hook (do not remember), large/small blades, can opener, bottle opener, toothpick, tweezers, fish scaler w/ruler, scissors AND pliers.....Pices logo in the usual spot for angler and fisherman.

ANYONE have a clue??????

I will check again about the Butane Lighter one......looks like I will have to go back and get it!!!  BTW, it was out of fluid/didn't work.  How do you refill it?

Here are pics of my SAK's I have here in Korea, and of the 1884-1984 set:

I bet that blade said "DE - GM 9305297" It's the term of the German registered design of the locking mechanism. I think this was put on the blades of the German Army version of the Centurion model . These blades also were used in several other models like the Trekker/Trailmaster you saw and  my Forester model .

Hope this helps

Here is a link to what I saw tonight.  However, the one I saw had a black lighter area...this one is stainless steel looking.  Nonetheless, this is what I saw, or similar:

I've that same SAK that's a fisherman with pliers, the scissors are in there regulary. I don't know why it has pliers though.

Conversely the angler has the pliers but no scissors...

What the fudge?

Hello and welcome.

Scissors and Pliers plus fishy equals Angler Deluxe. A rare SAK.
