I wonder what is in this drawer?
on: June 20, 2021, 02:25:15 PM
Time to do another "What the smurf is in this drawer" type thread...this time, one on of my coin storage areas in the house.

The drawer in question. This ended up being a coin storage drawer by accident. I am not exactly an active coin collector these days, but I will pick up the odd piece here and there if I come across them and the price is right. This was supposed to be temporary, but is now more or less permanent.

1. I got this from a friend in the military. For a while, I had no clue what it was about but did a bit of research (The coins are dated from 1982). The wooden plaque is Cyprus. Here is some Wiki info about the UN and Cyprus:

2. Just to show you how active I am of a collector of coins, back in 2013, everywhere you went, Canada Post had these cardboard coin storage cardboard holders for their War of 1812 coin set. The idea  was to find them in your loose change. Problem is, I tend to use my debit card a lot. I keep meaning to hunt the rest down...sometime.

3. Got this from a colleague back in 2017 to commemorate Canada's 150th Birthday.

5. Wooden nickels. I have one from my father to commemorate the flooding of the St. Lawrence seaway back in the 50s. The rest are cool in their own right.

6. These cheap American sets that usually come with a certificate of authenticity I find a bit interesting. The coins in there aren't worth much...and if I was to buy these new, they do tend to be overpriced. I however, found them for a song and a dance...so I had no issue buying a few of them.

11. Canadian Tire is a retail chain that deals with houseware, hardware, and automotive. For years, they would publish Canadian Tire paper money as a customer appreciation thing. Much like coupons, you can save them for a later purchase. I am sorry to say, Canadian Tire no longer hands out paper money, everything is now electronic. It just isn't the same. Back in 2010, Canadian Tire published some coins as a commemorative.

As a coin collector myself, I appreciate the effort that went into this thread. So many great sets! That British redesign set is so cool! :gimme:
Thanks for sharing, Chako!

I assume that the colour in the coins is from the flashgun as, apart from one, they should be silver in colour.

No. I got them in a yellow state. Who knows where it hung considering the previous owner was in the Canadian army.
