Is my Wine Master Olivewood or Walnut?
on: March 16, 2019, 01:07:05 AM
The eBay ad said Olivewood, the box says Walnut.
What do you think?

Lisa, these are from my projects stash. Walnut on the left, olive on the right. Colour is a little off due to artificial light, but you'll get the gist.

Also, for reference and comparison, the Wenger 85mm Evowood line is walnut.

Thank you both for the input.
Either way, I like the look so it's a keeper....just wish the box matched.

Now that I look at the label, it has 970164FA which means Olivewood...the 70163 is Walnut.

You should be happier with that box FB - As the code and description do not match
Which means manufacturer's error

And these make a collectible much more valuable!!

Yep Nice one FB - It's a beaut and great photees

I have lusted after the WineMaster since they came out - especially the Olive one
But the price is pretty high - And my other half has a very fancy traditional wooden BO with the same design.
So hard to justify.

Still think they should combine the Cheese Knife and Wine Master - Maybe discontinue the current Cheese Knife
Then bring out a WM variant with the cheese blade, as an additional blade !!

And you know me - Never miss a chance to plug the Wiki - We have a very nice WM page made with photos from MTo members

That's a great idea, adding the cheese blade as an additional blade!
I checked the sakwiki, good stuff!  :like:

It's already established that it's olive, so I can't add much, but I wonder if you tried smelling it and if it has olive smell. I have only one olive handled knife, but I personally love its nice scent.  :)

I have a walnut version that is just as light shaded as olive, but the grain of olive can not be matched in walnut :D

I would have preferred olive, but as a final piece at 70% discount, it's unfair to complain :D

Gorgeous piece!

I love my walnut version but can't honestly remember why I picked it over an olive one...

I can't wait for the 2019 Winemaster damas LE :D

Whoever sold it to you might have had a Walnut one and an Olivewood one and just mixed up the boxes.....I have had knife dealers at gun and knife shows accidentally put a knife in the wrong box when they had a knife model in several different handle materials.

No matter what may have happened you got a beautiful SAK!

I did just now try that, and it does smell very, very nice, but I almost think it is a men's cologne smell on mine instead of the wood.

I would have preferred olive, but as a final piece at 70% discount, it's unfair to complain :D
I like your light walnut one.  I paid $85 total, no where near your 70% off deal, but it was a day when eBay offered 15% off in actual cash (not eBay bucks), so when I saw it at $100, I knew I'd only be paying $85 which is a decent savings over new.
I can't wait for the 2019 Winemaster damas LE :D
Me too!  I'm curious to find out what price it will be.
No matter what may have happened you got a beautiful SAK!
Thank you Vicman, earlier in the thread we determined there was a factory mix up on the label.  The item number is for Olive, but the word says Walnut, so win-win!

Even though I love walnut, I think you might be better off with the olive. Walnut in my opinion can be a bit boring when it's a small piece.

Now oak, that looks smurfing beautiful on a knife, but you don't see it that much.  :-[

Yes, I think this one is definitely Olive that I have.  And now, on an unrelated topic, I am craving Jaffa Cakes!
