Good work jaya_man  :like:

Vintage 84s are rare down my neck of the woods, so it’s great to see one disassembled.

Thanks for this, Kottskrapa!
Was dismantling and was removing what I could after removing each pivot. So I missed where this one went:

I’ve definitely enjoyed taking other knives apart more than an XAVT but those steel pins didn’t make things fun at all.

I’ve used the same design to make the LED module removable...

Fantastic work (simple but fantastic)
The led light is removed exactly when it is at the maximum opening (in practice at 90 °)?
Thanks Marco

The only thing to clean was all the factory oil!

Spartan Lite dismantled

A later Spartan Lite. (2013) with the 2nd generation Lite housing visible without the hook. Also found that the housing protrudes more in front of the switch to prevent accidental activation. Didn’t notice that til today. Good job Victorinox.  :tu:

2.5mm pins removed with conventional drilling. 2.2mm pins are full length.

Brand new Walker from a sealed box. 2020 and 2021 date codes in the scales. Didn’t even operate the tools before disassembly.

Interesting that this was built with all four pins. I was expecting it to be like My First Victorinox knives which from what I’ve seen so far, are assembled with only 3.

Pins removed with ‘no drill’ method. The 4th pin is only being used for scale attachment, so it’s harder to cut the head since there’s nothing internal to preventing it from moving or support it much for peening. Just ‘floating’ in the three liners.

Forgot to take pics last time I had one apart. And now that I think about it, I should have taken pics of the parts loose. I modded this one to a UV bulb and rejiggered it to use the batteries in parallel for a lower 3V instead of 6V.

The red switch sits inbetween the LED leads and moves the + (? I think) lead to contact the battery side. But that can mostly be seen with the main door off anyway.

For anyone modding these, get LEDs with long leads. Short leads make for more things to do.

Just realized you were probably talking about the Walker!

Forgot to point out the wave/crush washer that’s molded into the liner for the Wood Saw pivot. I’m not used to all the details found in new knives.

I find equally interesting the lamp and the solutions adopted. but there has been considerable progress on the LEDs and I find it a pity that victorinox does not completely rethink this lamp

 :iagree:

And it’s ironic that their last iteration, while cool looking, actually functions worse than the last gray plastic version because the clear housing blinds the user once eyes are acclimated to the dark. I have to block it with my thumb when I use those.

I’d like a change to something like a 2032 3,7v Li-ion rechargeable. Swapped to the other side would be nice, since it has more room. But that would mean it couldn’t pair with a magnifier.

Wenger S557:

Very interesting, you can see the auto locking feature on the bottle opener and Phillips driver both of which have a semicircular pivot hole and engage with a notch in their springs. As well you can see the complicated shape of the knife spring with its back lock style notch and a divot for the lock lever to push against.

Welcome to MTo

If we had one it would be here

You can usually work out other layouts by studying the existing exploded views and the assembled other SAK, (before you take it apart!).

That photo was after I'd wallowed out the nail file pin holes taking the knife apart. This photo shows the correct size holes. Please ignore the key ring and smooth corkscrew.
