Charging 18650s

I've only got one light that takes 18650 cells, and had it set up for a single CR123 instead. Thinking about swapping it back to the 18650 set up, but the cells haven't been used for a few years, and I've no idea if they were charged before storage or not.

Will these charge up safely, or are they likely to get angry and cause sphincter manfunction?

(AW IC protected cells, no button, and Ultrafire WF-139 charger)

I think you're good to go to charge them up. I've brought some 18650s back from a five year storage for a relative. Worst case, the charge "memory"(for lack of a better term) will be shot and ,you'll need replacement cells.

I understand recharging them more than once can bump that up, is that right? I know the manual says 2-3 cycles might be needed on first use.

Lithium cells, just as CR123A's, have a shelf life of up to 10 years ;)

I knew single-use lithiums do, but had no idea if, and how, that might translate to rechargeables.

Personally, I'd run some capacity tests on them and such.
But they're probably good to go.  :tu:
Just cycle them a few times first.

Both batteries charged fine, no venting or other silliness. Torch back up and running.  :tu:

Thanks for your help and reassurance folks  :salute: You hear horror stories with these high power cells, and just wanted to be sure I wasn't doing anything silly  :cheers:
