Small MT with Clip
on: May 09, 2019, 09:33:16 PM
I've started wearing lightweight gym shorts a lot when running errands; and it pretty much rules out the larger medium and heavy duty MTs I typically carry on a regular basis. (Also tennis shoes don't protect my feet like my Ariat work boots I most often wear, but that's a whole different topic). Small MTs often slide out; and I actually just lost one this way Tuesday. My only option with a clip at present is the Skeletool, and I really dislike that tool; especially in that I have to use the thing open any time I use the bit driver. So I'm looking for small to medium lightweight tools that have pocket clips on them.

I know there's the Sideclip and Kick, and I like both. Just Sideclips are pricey, and I can't say I've seen many Kicks that have the clip; and the clip itself when you find them is as much as the Kick.  The SOG Baton line seems feasible as well--more tools, fixed drivers, slim, and just 6 ounces. At $80 though, not exactly something I can afford.

I was using this as an excuse to buy another tool, but those things all seem like valid suggestions. I normally wear a pair of shorts with loads of pockets on them, but they're currently out of use  because I tore the left cargo pocket. So, I'm stuck with the Reebok running shorts at present.  And this style is a bit more comfortable as well.   Suspension clips will do well I'm thinking for the non-ultralight stuff.   I've found the small coin purse I'm currently using as a wallet can fit a Classic with no real increase in thickness or weight.

I'm thinking about this kind of sheath for my Spyderco Ladybug Salt; for neck carry with a breakaway lanyard. The Ladybug weights essentially nothing and is OH, so I think it's perfect for neck carry. Of course, I could use a Tek-Lok for other carry options One like this should be great for something like a LM Squirt as well.

Ladybug Salt is definitely a great choice for neck knife  :tu:

Since you got a Classic as well, and it is essentially the same weight as the Ladybug, would you consider that as candidate for the neck carry?  Probably don't even need to look for the sheath, just a breakaway paracord and a small keychain clip on Classic might even work.

Or a Sog power access? Wingman/sidekick/rev? Not exactly small but pretty lightweight  Personally I feel that the Rev is pretty nice. So what if it's not oho blade, it's still on the outside. Great pliers, nice blade, OK-ish toolset. And it's rather budget (cheap)..

Neck lanyard is a great option.  I've been trying one out now and I like it.  A Manager or Pocket tool chest and AAA light seem to be whats working for me.

As far as shorts carry.  If you have keys why not put a Micra or Squirt on them  :dunno:.  You could use a length of paracord to attach to your tool then tuck into your waistband  :dunno:.  Sock carry

Nothing more fun than a quarter-pound, or more, of metal in your sock.
