Badge request: My BY SAKs
on: May 12, 2019, 02:24:39 PM
Hi everyone! I've finally (after a few months of waiting) received my BY SAKs, all three at once! Victorinox silver 77 v1, Victorinox silver 77 v2 and Wenger 77.  :woohoo: Now I'm missing the red Vic 77...  ;)

I didn’t realize Vic made both versions in the same year. Nice collection

Of the three, Wenger is in the worst contition (but still VG), but since I prefer Vics, I don't mind that.  :)

Cool, thanks

I kind of realized they likely had transitional years , like other changes do, but I’ve never seen them side by side. Very cool  :multi:

Would the 4th one be the red Vic? Or is there a transitional Wenger, too?

Yes, there is a red Vic too, although very rare (produced to 1978 in small quantities). AFAIK Wenger has only one 77 model.

Great - Thank you - The photo is there now:
https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Soldier+1961#Evolution_of_the_1961_Soldier
And it has also gone into a brand new photo gallery for the Soldiers   :woohoo:

You know I did some work on (created!) the Soldier page evolution section a few years ago and read these statements about the two variations being available in the same year and found it fascinating and weird! I almost didn't believe it !! (most of the Wiki work I do is shuffling other people's info to make the Wiki easier to use - I don't create much new stuff!!   :D )
So it's just brilliant to have these two photos of the 77 and 93 transitions.

However thinking about it now, having uploaded these two photos - It is (bleedin') obvious that that would happen !!  :pok:
Even if the Swiss Miltary changed their minds, or instructed the change to the new format, on 31st Dec 19xx for implementation on 1st Jan 19xx+1
It's very unlikely that Vic would have used up all their stock at exactly that moment!! And we know Vic never wastes parts !!

Still brilliant to have the piccies ND and JM - Great stuff - Thanks
And of course pictures speak louder than words - So any other doubting Thomas' can see the evidence.

Happy Days
This Wiki work is never ending!!

My thoughts exactly Huntsman... Based on readings, these would be the transition years:

1977 - Not only were the old cross and shield versions produced. But the red soldier too. Possible last soldier year?

1978 - LCSAS states that this was the last year red soldiers were produced... Need confirmation to validate this.

1987 - the year were the WK stamp was no longer required... I'm guessing that both the WK stamp in box version and no box/wk stamp version exists..

1993 - based on pics we now have, solid rivets and hollow rivets.

2003 - This is just my suspicion. LCSAS states that the darker red shade shield started in 2004. However, I have a 2003 specimen which has the same darker shield as my 2006 specimens. So my guess that lighter and darker red shields were issued in that year.

2008 - last year soldier alox produced and 1st year new model (111mm) produced.

There certainly would be more transition years in between, counting the polished and non polished tools...

It would be nice if fellow members who happen to have these soldier years in their collection can confirm these and share comparison pics.
