Ben don't forget to bring it to the meetup mate then we can all have a look at the play . My Atlantic Salt won't be there as I given it to the Lifeboat and it now stays onboard the boat . But I will bring my UKPK .

None of my spydies have any play, lock up in both directions are solid.   I heard the new Endura 4 have an issue with slight vertical play.  If your knife is new you might be able to send it back to spyderco for a replacement.  Spyderco is pretty good with warranty.  No quality folder should have any up/down play in the blade, it may compromise the locking mechanism.  I saw a youtube vid where a guy had a endura and the lock completely failed , he could close the blade without disengaging the lock.

Is it the guy smacking the handle from under with a stick? He's an idiot for doing it and completely broke the locking notch on the blade off. The way spyderco designed the backlock it's more secure but normal to have small amount of up/down play

I have spoken to people over on the spyderco forum since starting this thread and most of the guys over there have the same thing and claim it is nothing to worry about.
