Such a nice guy and he was doing some good work on SAKWiki. I hope he's alright.

I would think he is OK Reinier - He has a busy real life - So has bursts of activity at MTo and SAKWiki then disappears for a while !

I suspect most of these members mentioned in this thread are OK and other interests have taken precedence, hence their inactivity.
So I'm not sure if I need to keep posting here (what did I start?) or just accept that people move on. :dunno:

Some of us still stop in to check certain subfora from time to time. Maybe every six months or so, usually to peak at mods. And, as was the case tonight, to look up an old post. And lo and behold, I find this.

Many of us have found the quality of discussion to be have degraded significantly. If an American talks about another country's foibles or takes a jab with an ignorant stereotype, they are slapped down by moderators and more long term members. But everyone gets to take the piss out of America and Americans and they are applauded. We defend ourselves, we get slapped down again. I grew tired of playing a game where the rules are specifically written for me and mine to be expected to forfeit in the face of lies, propaganda and untruths, then put on half wit smiles and gibber about how thankful we are that a bunch of white knighting eurotrash (which includes many Kiwis, but I will not name names) are going to save us from ourselves.

Does that answer the question? I do miss MTO. But I do not miss certain people making certain comments that I would be willing to bet not inconsiderable sums of money that they would not make face to face. It's much the same reason I avoid Twitter.

First off good to see you.  Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

As for you feeling the way you do, I am sorry to hear this.  While we do our best to intervene when conversations go sideways we are not always on the spot.  We don't catch everything and we are thankful when members point out any issues that do get missed.  My PM is always open to you or anyone feeling the need to reach out.

I was happy to see you post ironraven, I am also happy you did.  To be honest I was not keen on some of what you chose to write.  I wont presume to say we are all here to play nicely.  I know members experiences here on MTO differ vastly from my own.  I will say what we choose to type effects members differently.  We can't get away with zero issues here so a PM is your friend IMO.  Let us know the problems you have and point to a thread so we can intervene.

Are we going to be able to squash all issues?  Nope.  We both know that.  We can choose to ignore and I believe silence those we feel offend us.  If I recall theres a way to do this .  Will this solve the problem?  No.  I know MTO has been a get a way for you in the past.  I also know from your post its missed.

I am not sure how you will take this post so if there is any misconstrued message you are getting please ask me for clarification.  I'll be clear tho, for those members who read your post who have nothing to do with your beef or your feelings with members you do have issues with, the words chosen are not nice at all and not welcomed.

Its moments like this where sides are drawn and impressions are taken.

It was his collection that gave me the collecting bug. And I am very interested in his lighting restoration business. Wish he was around to share information on both.
