I'm carrying the little black sheath in a cargo pocket with a Tec P7 clip to keep it hung and handy.  I now have the little ScrewPop driver from above which I modded to use double-ended Klein bits. I find the shape gives better torque than any of my other small Driver's. Also went back to the little adjustable wrench from before and a Leatherman Brewzer. That all fits in with the Cobra very nicely. I went back to my Kershaw Rainbow Scallion for a small pocket clip blade to carry. I have a Thrunite Ti5T in my other front pocket. I need to get to some projects now that I'm done with taxes so I can see if it covers my needs for now or if I should go back to the bigger Leatherman Pockettools I was just using above.

I also have a plain silver version of that Kershaw that's more practical  I've also thought about carrying an old Gerber folding utility knife that's more durable, but it's hard to one-hand deploy so I don't care for it much for EDC.  I do carry one of those Gerbers in my car tool kit.

I should clarify that the Gerber utility knife I'm talking about is the EAB.  I know they have a bigger one that's easier to one-hand.

Nice. Is the swisschamp close by for emergencies? The eab lite is a good back up blade and doesn't take up much weight or space.

The EAB is great for use as a blade you can kill cutting things you wouldn't want to with a better blade.  When it gets messed, just swap it out!  Be careful though not to lose the screw that retains the blade when you're doing a swap.....

I know it. Bought a couple when they first came out. I have a couple other folding utility knives, and I just ordered the larger rubber Gerber one. The first-gen EAB didn't have as robust a finger guard, and the blade was not as secure.

And come to think of it, I did lose one of the screws once and had to search for a while to find it.

The EAB is a neat little tool when you want to cut through things and don't care about the blade..
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

Been carrying the Gerber rubber-handled utility knife for a couple days. Had to sand off some rough steel edges and added a titanium blade. Works well. I like the idea of having a blade I don't care about breaking.

Why am I using it instead of the EAB?
-pocket clip slides over fabric better than wide EAB clip
-easier to change out blade
-feels better in hand
-is easier to open and close one-handed

Ah I see now. Almost twice as expensive for basically the same thing

But I also see that there a lot utility blade based knifes out there. Another thing I have to look into  :ahhh

Yes, there are a lot out there usually called super knives. The rubber Gerber is a little smaller, and the blade release is a little more intuitive than most and doesn't require a tool like some - you just push down on the thumb stud and pull out the blade.

Like that lanyard/fob. Got one in all of my knives/MTs, too.

I have one of these Superknives. Nice utility knife,  but blade tends to slip out causing danger to your fingers when you try to cut tough material. Company i worked got four of these for us, and they all had same problem. Be very careful with these.

Hmmm. Thanks for the heads up. I noticed that the Stanley posted above has the same blade mechanism. I'm surprised they didn't catch it since it's a common design.

I like the look of the Gerber above I like the way the handle is on it :tu: Alot of the push button ones are dangerous if you are cutting and cutting beacuse it is not hard to forget about the button and as you are cutting  push it :o I have had them fall out on me before as well  Otherwise they are very dependable disposable blades :D Depedning on the brand some of the buttons are in better places than others though

Carried the Gerber superknife for a few days with my tool sheath, and then I went back to a multitool when I needed less fiddling to separate out the tools - used the LM Wingman mostly. I ordered a few cheap 2 1/2" and 3" ($9-$20) dedicated folders to use with the tool sheath as an alternative to the superknife. I like using a utility blade for durability and carefree abuse, but I like a little longer blade if the knife is cheap enough to not worry about damaging or destroying it.

I did not read every post but it seems I am working on the same thing as Tom is. I carried a wave/skeletool for the last, say 10 years, and it seems I have used only some part of it frequently. Pliers, knife, screwdriver/bits. As a MT is always a compromis I am thinking of getting dedicated tools for just those three tools.

I have now the 125mm knipex cobra and plier wrench, a small combination plier, knife, screwbits and a Wera bitdriver that could fit my needs and of course something to put everything in so I am workining on a Skinth. Oh, and a flashlight have to be in that as well.

Which "combination plier, knife, screwbits" are you using?

Some pictures can follow sooner or later if you are interested. But I am not totally sure what to carry yet. I just recieved a Skinth to put everything in. What will fit will influence my set up. But as it looks now my kit will be:

- Gedore 125 mm combination pliers
- Wera 816R bit holder
- Some PB Swiss long shank bits that I use most (slotted and phillips in both two or three sizes)
- Spyderco H-1 Dragonfly
- Perhaps an assortment hex bits
- a very small bit ratched to use in confined spaces (like to one you'll find in a Victorinox set)

All of these can be found more or less on my Leatherman Wave but the above listed tools perform better individually. Only thing is I have to see if it does not ad up to be a much bigger package than just the Wave. An alternative for that Wera 816R could be a Wera 813R. But that is really smalll and I think I cannot aply much torque on it. Best would be something in between sizewise but I did not found anything yet that come with a fixed bit holder instead of a magnet. And I am still working what plier would be best, this combination plier that also has the cutter build in or the 125mm Cobra which has bigger opening jaws. On the other hand, bigger jaws than the Wave I hardly need to carry with me and that Gedore is about the same. Unfortunatly, there is no space for both without having to much bulk on my belt.

I'm finding the pics too.

For my own use I need wider opening jaws. That's why a multitool doesn't work for me in a lot of situations. The Gedore does look nice though. The Wera bit holders are both good-looking too.

You're going to have an excellent kit in all this. I may have to add a couple of these and modify my medium tool kit in my car bag. I'd like to see which Skinth you end up with and how they fit.
