Day 01:

Adventure Boy is starting to show his age. He's over 14 years-old now and some days he is a bit stiff and sore.

Actual dog, NOT a pile of compost, pictured here with a Buck 112

He takes a canine anti-inflammatory on the tougher days, but only needs a 1/4 tablet. The 112 got pressed into service today quartering his meds:

All it takes is a can of yellow Krylon and two swipes of an itchy trigger finger.  Cool PD35.  I own them in black and camo.

Day 01 B

Reckoned the MTO Rangers needed a pot of chili to get started on. I converted Mountain Man chili to Ranger chili. You do that by switching the ingredient of black powder to smokeless powder it gives it a little extra kick. Grab a bowl and dig in.     :D

Day 01 (bonus material):

My good-fortune inducing "Jumpin' Nix" gets made with sausage, too. The 112 made short work of cutting the sausage into chunks before browning.

I cook the rice and the peas together along with veggies and the sausage. In this batch, I should have added a bit more rice, but it worked out very well in the end. I feel lucky already.  :D

A couple bowls of Jumpin' Nix garnished with cheese and chile flakes:

Day 1: New Year, New Knife, New Challenge, New (and first for 2020!) photo folder on my PC.

While so far, I'm putting up with it, I'm a little irked that this is my first Buck with quality issues. Especially when it's $6 MORE than the Buck Bantam/Nano Bantam combo I bought at Tractor Supply (both knives are perfect and also American made). My Shield wobbles a little when open, but not at all closed. The Ranger wobbles at least 1/16 in either direction. I will likely put up with it until the end of the challenge, then pack it up with the 440C '74-80. This is a warranty problem. Only knives I have that wobble this bad are 75+ and really worn. Other than that, I feel the Ranger is a huge improvement over the old lightweight Buck this replaced, a 1996 442 BuckLite. And, throw in the fact that they're $2 cheaper at my local knife store may mean I might buy another (this time, verifying that there is no wobble at all), then go ahead and send this one off with the 112 that needs a new blade, and the 105 and 303 that need sharpening. That way, justify UPS shipping (some post offices aren't knife friendly, despite postal rules saying only automatics can't be shipped; and that was at one post office with just SAKs, while I've had tactical Gerbers in the open at my local PO with no issue) and get all the Bucks I need with work done to Idaho at the same time.

Sorry to hear that. From the Buck to the Post Office. That just is not right!
