Make use of the hidden compartment on the new style Nylon Sheath

I'm planning to use the OG Supertool frequently but find the old bit-kit with its separate case a bit cumbersome to carry.
Instead I'm planning to use my Piranha 2 with a flat bit kit and extender.
All in one sheath would be great I thought, but couldn't find any... until I had the following idea for the Large 4 pocket nylon sheath.

What did I do?:
These new LM Nylon Sheath do only have one extra pocket in the main compartment, to the back. It's meant for the flat bit holder card.

I needed one more pocket and it's actually right there to the front. It's sewed closed not meant to be a pocket, but probably rather to just cover-up the back of the button.

I secured the corners and opened the stiches on the top end, voila... another pocket  :dunno:

I hope I make sense?

Oh, I secured the yellow stitching with a tiny drop of super glue on the inside.

Hi, McStitchy, greetings from PR. I saw your mod, and found it to be something I'd like for "my kit". I would like to do a similar modification to my new sheath (I'll be carrying a detachable saw blade and awl for my Wave), and was wondering: how does the stitching has held up, has it been practical, and your overall satisfaction with the sheath.

 I have the old nylon/velcro sheath that came with the Wave, but its now hard to repair upon previous repairs ( :facepalm:). I really liked that sheath because it had a fifth pocket behind the hook field, and was able to be loosened enough that I could carry both bit kits, tool and saw blade under the flap, and the awl bit behind the velcro.

I think this new one will be better, as the nylon looks and feels better quality, and has a snap; I tested it and all fits (albeit really tight; stretching it at the moment), all thats needed is that fifth pocket.

So, thanks for  your input in advance ( or anyone else's for that matter, and for reading all this !).

Hey Juan,

the new nylon sheaths seem to be good quality. They hold up fine so far, although I mostly carry them in a backpack.
I do carry the Surge on a belt occasionally.
No problems so far after one year for the sheath itself...





... also my stitching seems to hold up well till now. Please note that I did add a tiny drop of superglue on the inside to secure it...











Here's a before and after comparison of the mod again...





I've done the mod on a "Large" 4 pocket nylon sheath that's made for the bigger tools like the Supertool 300 or Surge.

So will this work for the "Medium" one made for the Wave too? Let's find out:

A bit stretchy with 2 bit cards as you said.
But its built to stretch on the sides and seems fine...



The width appears to be identical to the large sheath, that's good as well then...



The medium sheath is a tad shorter than the large one so the bit card will stick out a bit more than on my mod on the large one. Still looks good to me...





Basically it comes down to the stitching you do.

1. Secure the corners with additional stitching, and do it at the exact spot where the current stitching is.
I could have been a bit more precise on this corner here...



2. Carefully cut open the existing stitches on top....



I hope this works out well for you.

Makes me wonder why they didn't do this at the factory. The old Wave sheath has a small pocket underneath the Velcro that can hold something like a small one-piece tool (I carried a By the Numbers Series 6 in mine) or a 58mm SAK. And this looks a lot more spacious of a "pocket" than that tiny little slot in the old style sheath.

IT IS more spacious [ as the large model is concern; it fits a bit card fully or, in my case, a detachable metal saw blade for the wave (or Charge)] as per my measurements. It is a mistery that they didn't leave it open, as (like McStitchy said) it appears that it is basically for covering up the snap, and the construction is VERY similar to the rear inner pocket.
Good thing to do for the modders to work on! >:D
Hopefully I'll be able to do it this weekend (pictures to follow if anyone's interested)!

... to this! Loving the new bigger front pocket, the snap closing, and the quality of the new nylon (as compared to the older's). Everything fits well, and albeit LTG ditched the twin horryzontal/scout carry straps, I made do with my own strap. Really liking a LOT this sheath. :like:
