Never seen one before so yes well worth the money
Since you are a collector of MINT in BOX specimens, its neat to have one not so mint .
Been there and done that on other things!
One day, I bought a knife on eBay that I had been looking for, it was mint in box and a decent price. I looked at his other items and he had this (his photos)..$7.99 free shipping.I don't know why I bought it except, I guess I wanted to help the seller with more cash as the "Mint" one he sold me was so nice and reasonably priced.Sometimes I am a little ashamed of the purchases I make.
Wow, that is a used and abused knife. No, I wouldn't have paid that at all.Charles.
I have a feeling you're not alone. I questioned myself at first too.
A clean and sharpen and you've got a knife with who knows what history. I might be someone who also likes to think of all the possibilities in a tools life. What has it seen, who or how many before me owned it, where did it spend its life and in what countries, etc etc.I bought a Wenger with a pretty well worn blade. I loved the age of the knife and all the possibilities of its previous life, even the ones I may have made up
I am now wondering about its life. One thing for certain, it was put to use a lot!
Yes, I'd have bought that in a heart beat! The condition is what's soooo good about it. It's obvious to a blind man, that knife gave someone, perhaps a couple of someone's, a lifetime of good serve and companionship. If it could only tell the stories it must have!!!!
Heck yeah I would have! It isn't the prettiest, but at least it's filler and you can tell someone used it heavily. I have a 1942 Soldier in not much better shape, and I gave $20 for it. I've theorized someone used it to break out of a German POW camp during the war. And besides, with it being so rough, I tote it every now and then. I wish the "Farmer's and Soldier's Knives" would return, with carbon steel implements. All we get today is the gardener's knives, and only a couple have more than one blade; and are built around horticulture.
Exactly!!
I think it is a cool find!
Don't forget James Garner had one in his kit in the Great Escape
Here's the Soldier I was talking about. Even with its age and the condition; it still has among the strongest springs I've ever had on a knife. (Image removed from quote.)
Sometimes you have to be glad you were able to get an antique, regardless the condition. And like you say yourself: keep it untill a better example comes along
