Name my mod
on: August 27, 2019, 09:42:58 AM
As suggested by Aloha and McStitchy, does anyone have a suitable name for my mod? As you can see below, it is a 3-layer mod, with combo tool and large blade on one, scissors on the middle and torch + magnifier on the third, there’s a corkscrew on the back holding the mini-screwdriver and the titanium scales house pen, tweezers and toothpick. What would you call it?

Yeoman Lite.  It has the same tools as the Yeoman except flashlight instead of phillips.

Or

Compact MagTorch.  Because it is is a Compact plus magnifying glass (Mag) and flashlight (Torch).

Good suggests both! I had thought “Compact maglite”, but that might have TM issues!!

The Investigator. Magnifier and torch are natural detective's tools, the titanium scales are tough but understated making this a suitable carry for the hard-boiled plain clothes man. Harry Bosch probably has one.

Love it, fullbreakfast- it has a lot of stripped down Explorer to it, Investigator - certainly has a ring to it! Victorinox take note  :pok:

Forgot to mention the hook with file on the backside- I mainly use the hook to hold the pen, but do only some hooks have the file? Seems a no brainer to put it on all....

Was thinking the really punchy (and obvious): Compact Explorer Lite   ::)

I guess it could be shortened to CEL or maybe Cello

Like Investigator better   :)

Yep only a few hooks have the nail file - Always assumed that this was because it is quite costly to make, so not on most models
And hence Compact pretty expensive compared to others

EDIT PS: Nice mod BTW  :tu:

That is why I said MagTorch instead of MagLite

I'd call it a Compact Lite :)
I second this, most 'Lite' configuration is always mag glass + led light, and it is essentially a Compact + "Lite" layer.

Or if you prefer something funky, I would say Yeolite.  It's not entirely Yeoman, so maybe Yeolite?

Huntsman, thanks! I’m erring towards ‘Investigator’ myself at this stage!

Sos24 - I get you now, makes sense! I was a bit slow on the uptake there! D’oh!

Comis - I thought only the Cybertool lite had the torch/mag layer, the other lites pairing it with the inline Philips? I could well be wrong though!

I like Inves-Ti-gator, considering the scales  ;)

Compact Lite works well too.

Nice work  :tu:

Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far - I must admit thar inves-Ti-gator really tickles my Ti funny bone, thanks AimlessWanderer! As a Douglas Adams fan, the Dirk Gently refs are fun, Detective Lite, or even, as it’ll be my sidekick, Dr Watson all get honourable mentions.

FolderBeholder, the clear lite came from a Cybertool lite -  my Traveller lite has a grey case; I assume the clear is the younger, but I’m not sure. Either way, I got left with a CT34 after surgery to create the Inves-Ti-gator, but I moved the bit holder to the middle:

Yes the clear case is the new version of the 'Lite' tool - Came out early last year (I think)

I would name it C.T.P. (Compact Titan Perspective) - because of the magnifier, the light and the scales.

Nice mod btw!

However, Investigator or Detective is cool too  :D

Does anyone know if it has different / better output than the old modules...?  I've never got a SAK with an LED and been a bit put off by various things I have read as to it being a weak light source. I mean I know you can't expect miracles out of a tiny unit like that but I had some keychain LED lights back in the day that were actually pretty decent.
