Give-Away/Random Act of Kindness
on: September 27, 2019, 11:29:59 PM
This little Companion, or Executive 58 as I found out, has a broken spring.   But it has the loveliest scissors and the Victoria tang stamp.  If you could use it for parts, or want to send it to Vx for repair, let know and I'll drop it in the mail to you.

EDIT: I should clarify.  What's broken is one of the back springs, such that the knife (or file, can't remember which just now) is loose and floppy and doesn't snap open or shut.  In fact, they might both be broken.  The scissors spring is the single leaf variety, and also the early black colored kind, which is correct, cool, and rare.

Thanks,

Myron

I’d take it if available. I have the stuff to fix it
If the trees blew down the wind and no one was around, would the alphabet song really go backwards?

Fantastic!

Although it wasn't my intention, I wonder if this qualifies for the RAK badge?  I'll forward to a moderator for consideration.

You know it's funny.  I thought there was a RAK badge, but when I looked just now I couldn't find it in the list.   I must've imagined it.

Oh well, RAK's are their own reward!

This is true !  A RAK makes both giver & recipient feel better about life :)   :tu:

Nice one Myron

That is a very old SAK - 1960s I reckon - And those scales are in amazing condition for a sixty year old knife.
I've got one - That I love - But the scales are totally battered!
Think it only cost me about $4  :D

And if GTPhM fixes her up she'll be a beaut!!

PS. Just seen Greg's post - Your RAK to me certainly made me feel great, mate !   :salute:  Thanks again    :tu:

I agree!

I’m not sure how to nominate someone else for a badge, but I think this may qualify for the Santa badge.

Thank you Huntsman and GTPhM!

As a stocking stuffer for SAK fans everywhere, here is a link to a brand new blog post of mine.  I just published it today, and it includes details and pictures of my latest SAKs.  It's too much to clog up MTo with so I put it on my own site.  I hope you enjoy it.

....and immediately set to work  :D

Interesting how the old back springs are different.

Edit: I don’t know why it turned my pics the wrong way round

And here she is all back together. Next step will be to sharpen the blade.

I decided to replace all the springs with new style ones. This also allowed me to add the key ring.

She’s going to end up replacing the modern alox classic on one of my key sets

Thanks again Myron for this awesome RAK  :like: :climber:

Noooo - I know it's a keychain SAK - But don't put it on a key chain and scratch up those lovely scales

I suppose I could put it in my dopp kit in a leather sheath. That way I could use it without fear of scratching

Hmmm - I am not a disapprover of SQs - But also think SAKs are for using
Sheath would be good - or maybe a desk/bedside table user?? Those scales really are nice!
Edit: Just checked the piccies again they look pretty mint!

Gustophersmob, this is fantastic!     I love what you've done with it, and I'm so glad you spoke up for this wee SAK.

I hadn't thought about a leather sheath for it, but I could make you a shell cordovan cover for it if you like.   That would be pretty cool, if I say so myself.

Thanks again for rescuing the poor thing and renewing its lease on life.  So glad to see this!

Thanks, I appreciate the offer but I’d hate to take more stuff from you!

I’m happy with the setup and pleased that the project turned out well without any mishaps. I’m always a little nervous drilling and peening on alox scales. Any mistakes are there in the open for the world to see  :o
