I know I'm a couple of years behind the curve, but does anyone else miss the "long C" tang stamp?  The new one lacks a little elegance to my eye.

So I've been in need of a round bolster stockman. Was wondering if it should be the 18 or the 47. Also what kind of covers it should have, but kinda wanted bone, either the darker brown/red one or a saw cut bone in almost any color. Well, things kind got decided for me when I saw one of the big EU online stores having a discount on a blue synthetic 18 from the "working man" series. It's pretty much half the price of any other Case stockman on the site so I could not pass. I am generally happy with it, though it has the worst blade rub I've seen- on the sheeps foot blade it goes almost to the cutting edge. I think that when that blade loses about 2mm from sharpening it might ever rub on the cutting edge. But I'll think about that when or if it happens.

:like: I should pick up a navy synthetic Case someday. Considering my background, it's likely appropriate.

That's the one Steve.   :hatsoff:

First saw it on my new Working Jack.  Very stark compared to the long C design,  but also nothing new when you look back through what has been used before.

Looking at the 80-89 stamp.  I'm assuming that ss stands for Stainless but, jeez, pick a better font I'd say!

Just had a look at my #87 Medium Jack and, very happily, they've not used the lightning bolt font for the Stainless marking.  Phew.

Well, now I'm getting a little obsessed.  :D  Having barely glanced at the tang stamps before, I'm now taking macro photos.

Interesting that the form of the S seems to be inconsistent even between knives made in the same year.

I like this knife a lot.  Today I found out the main blade was just a wee short for this tomato.  Doesn't look like it in the pic but the tomato was wider that the blade.

All that means is I need to carry my Tribal lock too.

Studying tang stamps can get to be overwhelming at times.           :D     I have even bought knives just for the tang stamps. There are people who collect tang stamps. You might want to try and get a copy of "Goins Encycopedia of Cutlery Markings" to further your research.

Cheers David.  I might try and stay at the top of this particular slippery slope though. :D

I was just watching a knife comparison video from Project Farm:

The video was interesting, but the best part is the last two minutes. He talks to a neighbor who has been carrying the same Case pocket knife for 65 years. Here is what it looks like now:

I love it.  Its neat to see how one knife has been carried for so long.  I always thought that'd be me but I have a few knives that I like too much to choose.

Whoever gets that knife will have some wonderful history of the person.

I like the tailed C stamp as well, yet not really a Case Collector!  I do however have found several patterns that I fancy. Sod Buster, Muskrat, Canoe, Tribal Lock,  and CopperLock.

One of my favorite pocket EDC is this Tribal found at a Case dealer's display case!!! (NOS)
