Soldier 08 help symbol
on: May 30, 2020, 04:33:46 AM
Hi guys
I was looking at the model Soldier 08 on my Amazon.
I realized that there are two pages, with fairly similar prices but with a different sales code.
0.8461.MWCH
0.8461.MW4DE
I was able to understand that the differences concern the symbol on the handle (German or Swiss)
But I wonder if there are other differences (example: material or grip of the handle)
Thanks in advance for any information.

The Swiss Army knife has the dual density scales

Some info here:
https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Soldier+2008#Scales

The German Army Knife has 'regular' nylon scales in olive-drab (military) green and of course the Bundeswehr eagle imprint

I think these are the only differences
You can see this model discussed on the Trailmaster/Trekker page

Thanks !
I had seen that page, but I did not understand or I was not sure if the handles of the Swiss version are "soft" as the page says.
So if I understand correctly the Swiss version is better to hold in the hand?

Somewhat softer yes - But it must still be very tough - As it is a military spec knife

And a bit grippier!!

Personal experience after carrying the modern Soldier over the past month...  The grippier scales are good for grip, but they sacrifice some strength in the area just above the tip of the blade if you drop it and it lands on this spot.  I ended up bending the liner outward a couple times as a result.  I'm switching mine over to different scales now that the challenge is over.  Definitely not a deal breaker by any stretch, more of a personal preference as they are indeed better for grip when your hands get wet.
They say the pen is mightier than the sword.   However... there is a dead guy here with a Bic in his hand and a Samurai walking away.
