A little mod on a standard British Army Clasp Knife
on: September 29, 2019, 05:11:14 PM
Very pretty happy that I had some free time this weekend. Not quite sure what to do, ended up tinkering with this little fellow.  :D The steel is nothing fastastic but the fun I had doing it sure worth the time.

Some heavy grinding to reshape the frame.

Reprofiled the blade and added a finger choil.

A pretty heavy-duty pokie/scraper thing from the can opener.

A little more modern take on a older classic. I guess....

Good job! I've been meaning to see if I could get a 111mm can opener in one. The one they come with absoluetely sucks.  The steel is soft, and will not, for the life of me, get or hold a decent edge. Sharpen it, and days later, it's butter knife dull. Not even "halfway decent edge" like my 440A, 420HC (and even cheap 420SS), and 1075/85/95 knives still have after extensive use. But, the carbon steel WWII issues, and the big 5" something closed WWI version are very nice knives. I have a Canadian issue Wostenholm from 1917/WWI I've been meaning to have work done.  All the blades (minus a short and blunted main blade; rounded tip, when it should be a spear point) are in excellent condition and snap like a bear trap, but the handles are falling off, and the liners are wrecked. Since I plan to use this knife (there were something like 300,000 made in 1917 and lots are out there), I'm going with micarta.
