I sent in a handful of 108mms to Vic USA, one of them did have a broken back spring and they forwarded them to Ibach for repair. I haven’t gotten them back yet, but that might be what happens to yours. I have sent some back with blade damage and they replace it with a clip point blade, at least in the USA.

And we're back! The FedEx man delivered my repaired GAK to me today, and it is like-new. Broken spring replaced, original knife blade restored to almost-new edge and polished, and the scales replaced with correct Bundeswehr new ones. Everything came packaged up in a little Victorinox drawstring pouch. It's all very nice. About 3.5 months from start to finish. Hats off to Victorinox for such outstanding customer service!Myron
