Yes! I have both, and find that they have everything you need and nothing you don't, in a pocket friendly package!
The quintessential SAK is different for everybody. For some it’s a Spartan, for some the SwissChamp. Whatever suits your needs and works for you
The Ranger is certainly a great choice for someone looking for a 5-layer model.YMMV, but to me it is a little too thick and heavy to be the quintessential SAK. It might only be 36 grams heavier than the Climber, but that is nearly 50% heavier. More significantly, in my view, it is almost 30% thicker than a Climber, which just makes it feel a bit unwieldy. The quintessential SAK? Possibly the Climber...
Greeting, honourable knights,So what do you think, is the Ranger/Master Craftsman the quintessential SAK? After all, NASA seemed to think so...
Being new on the forum I have no idea how to initiate a 30 day Ranger challenge, but I would certainly participate if someone set it up...
I think the Ranger is the best 91mm SAK. It has everything I really want and nothing I don't.
You're right Thundah. The biggest thing, for me at least, is the Ranger has all the tools on the back that the Swisschamp does. I really like the chisel, goofing around with wood like I do.
When I think of SAK, I think of red scales, as for which version that is quintessential, I'd almost have to say the Boy Scout Explorer. Fun topic.
(Image removed from quote.)I posted this pic before but I cant help it... its my fav.
I would have to agree with FB. The Explorer is my quintessential SAK, especially the BSA version. I posted this pic before but I cant help it... its my fav.
Nice Boy Scout Explorer HolyDeuce!
The Fieldmaster or Huntsman is close. While the Spartan should be considered the quintessential SAK due to its direct lineage, the Fieldmaster and Huntsman really do fit quintessential, since the word essential is in there. But the arguement could be made for the 91mm Ranger, since it is 5 layers (quint) and has all the essential tools...Sorry. I had to.
