Aluminium "finish"
on: December 23, 2008, 07:59:31 PM
I have just spent an hour or so removing the finish from my Spyderco Pride's handles as I was never keen on the white/silvery surface they came with (this is a before pic);

What I am now left with is a glossy (yet highly scratched in the right light) finish which I am far happier with but I was wondering if anyone knew of any product I could put on the handles to give them a different finish?  As far as I can tell, the scales are made of aluminium.

TIA

Ben

Are they pinned or screwed? If screwed you can try anodizing it. I've seen threads elsewhere on how to home anozide aluminum with battery acid and power supply.

They are screwed so come apart very easily.

I was hoping for more of a "paint on" or "leave to soak in" product but I would give that a go if there were no other options.

Well I don't really know what's possible TBH so I am open to suggestions.

Look for automotive paint, they come in all sorts of color/finish and are quite durable compare to other spray paint. In particular see if you can find Duplicolor wheel/rim paint. I use the graphite colored one on my rims and they stick pretty well to aluminum and quite durable. It's a matte graphite color with metal sheen, looks pretty cool.
