So I was counting up the functions on the XAVT because there are a lot of conflicting numbers and tool duplications, and while there are numerous ‘unofficial’ functions we can assign to many Victorinox tools, I think I have discovered one that could genuinely be assigned as a real feature.
The Universal Wrench Victorinox adopted from Wenger for the updated XAVT has a nail-lift added to the end of the tool, that makes a perfect glass breaker tool.
The point is below the pivot line, so the tool won’t fold back on impact, the wrench is a beefy 2.6mm thick, and there’s a bit of length on the tool to keep your hand and fingers away from the glass. Also, the 357g (12.6oz) weight of the XAVT will help to increase the energy at the impact point.
I don’t have a piece of auto glass around to test, but I think it would do a good job. Another reason to keep a spare XAVT in your glove compartment.
