Magnetized
on: September 30, 2019, 06:56:58 PM
Does anyone else magnetize certain tools on their SAK? I've magnetized the in-line Phillips and multi-purpose hooks on my Explorers and every SwissChamp I've gotten, as well as the fish scaler/ ruler on the SwissChamps. I figured if magnetizing the combo tool on the 58mm models by default was a great idea, why not the full sized drivers on the 91mms? And I did the fish scaler in case I need to retrieve something that I can't get to with the in-line Phillips.

Good idea Kraken. Do you just stroke a strong magnet across the tool?  :like:

Thanks Max! Yes; at home I use a commercial available magnetizer/de-magnetizer that I picked up from a hard ware store. At work I took the magnet out of an old computer hard drive and use that. About a dozen strokes down the tool towards the working end is all it takes. I usually test the effectiveness with a box of paper clips and see how many I can pick up at once.

I’ve got one of those super neodymium magnets, so will try it out!  :salute:

Works great, used one to magnetize an inline Phillips on a Yeoman.
Cheers!

Hah! What I just did  :salute:
Now can pick up a whole bunch of screws...
(Magnet in the background. Seriously magnetic, can only get it off surfaces by sliding it).

Yup did the same on my Manager and Explorer.  Used a strong magnet as described above and it worked like a charm.
