Eddie Van Halen
on: October 12, 2019, 01:47:01 PM
I am hoping that this doesn't turn into an RIP thread any time soon, but as I understand it, he isn't doing so well, with an unconfirmed illness.  Some are speculating that it may be a return of the cancer that almost killed him years ago.

Allegedly friends and family like his ex wife Valeri Bertonelli are visiting him, which isn't a great sign.

I hope the news is misleading and that Ed has many more albums left in him.

I read this news today. It looks like he is going to Germany seeking treatment for throat cancer. Sad news. I agree this better not turn into a RIP thread. First cassette I ever bought was 1984. His playing is what sparked my interest in music as a child.

It's been on the newspaper websites here saying he has throat cancer as a result of years of sucking on his metal guitar pick, even the so called reputable ones have gone with that story

Should I stop using metal spoons? ::)

(Interestingly, I've just learned that guitar picks tend to be made of soft metal, like brass, silver, antique metal. Doesn't excuse the story at all, but thought it was interesting)
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

He is also reportedly a very heavy smoker, which probably doesn't help much.

Either way, I hope he recovers.  Like him or not, no one can deny that he is an icon of the music industry.

Van Halen 1 was my first record as a kid. Saw 5150 live at the Forum in L.A. Eddie rocks!
