POLL: Which Soldier models do you have? ...
on: October 16, 2019, 05:21:24 PM
So, what do we have?

Basically to me, my main interest in doing this poll was seeing how many of us had an actual M1891 in their collection; and which model is the most common military SAK among us. From my experience, only a tiny minority of SAK collectors have M1891s in their collection.  I also keep seeing a reference to a "one-bladed pocketknife" the Swiss Army issued prior to the introduction of the M1891. The 125th-anniversary reproduction M1891 is covered under the "other" option--this also includes SwissTools and countries other than Switzerland.

I have the following; a 1942 M1908 (in really rough condition), a 1993 M1961 (early model still using the hollow rivet and thick, as-ground bottle opener with scraper), and a 2013 M2008 (soon to be rebuilt by Vic, trying to sharpen out the serrations, I made a mess). My only "other" is a 108mm German Army Knife, an early model Victorinox without the striker. All of these are more, or less, user condition, but I do plan to upgrade. I'll be getting an M1961 1996 (birth year, preferably in a Wenger) and any WWII-era M1908 with a full blade (on my current issue, it's about 1" short and heavily sharpened).

Hey Cody,

Cool poll.  I have a bunch of Model 1961's, a couple DAK's (also the basic Pioneer/Model 1961), the 125th Anniversary re-issue of the 1891, at least one 108 mm GAK, and a modern 111 mm GAK.  One of these days I should put them all together for a picture.

I ticked off 4 boxes.  Don't consider myself a big collector though.

All of them of course !!!   :tu:  ....... Well except the 1890 - Which I don't expect I will ever get   :(

One-ish of each - Including the main iterations of the 1961 ie with or without the: WK mark, shield, bail, hollow rivet, red scales etc

We could expand the list a little - To include the Wenger red 1951
Probably not all the '61 variations - Maybe the red vs silver 1961 ?   ???

Hey - Can I change the name of the thread to something like "POLL: Which Soldier Models do you have?"
To make it a bit more meaningful/attractive to our users?

Sure. I'm not that good at making catchy titles.

All besides the 1890 one.
Too rare and pricy for me, plus I dont like shelf queens, so I want one to carry.

So a around WW2 model in SS,
a 1959 one, a 1986 (BY), a 1995 SI, 2005 SI, Vic Safari Trooper (no official issued one but the civilian GAK, well actually I have several of these in green and red)

Damn.

I selected only the model of 1961, but I also own a Danish Army Knife from 1985. I consider the two to be the same knife, but others may feel differently.
