Hi from Portland!
on: December 24, 2008, 07:51:02 PM
Hi all! Just arrived last night in Portland, OR to spend the holidays with my wife's folks. :) It was quite the tip... We flew out of Baltimore on Sunday, but when when we stopped in Salt Lake City, we found out our flight to Portland had been canceled. Turns out that Portland has been having the worst winter weather here since '68, and they aren't really prepared to handle it. So anyway, after one night in a hotel (on us), they told us that because of all the cancellations and weather we might not fly out till the 27th. :o Well, there were a few of us who weren't interested in staying at the airport for the better part of the holidays, so a group of us (6 random stangers, including me & my wife) rented a 4x4 Explorer and drove 24 hrs through Utah, Nevada, California, and Oregon and arrived here in Portland on Tuesday afternoon. (Driving through Idaho would have been shorter, but the Pass into Oregon that way was closed.)

Worst part? Having to go on a road trip without a MT. :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh No problems came up though, so it's all right, and I had my KF4 back in my pocket as soon as we got our bags from the airport. :) I also didn't have a lighter or fire starter, so I bought a cheapo at the first gas station. :D I wasn't about to drive through the snowed-out mountains without a way to start a fire. :ahhh

So here I am, in Portland OR, and the streets are so bad we don't go anywhere we don't need to. Of course, I hope it clears up in time to take another little trip to the factory, though. :D

Here's a picture of the "road" in front of the house... They don't plow to much around here. :o

This isn't Europe, you know. >:D At least you warned me before I ventured out in the winter tundra only to find a "closed" sign.... I guess I'll have to spend time with family and friends after all. :-\ :D
