Don't know about that, SirVicaLot, but I will say that your pictures are usually the best.

My son gave me a limited edition blue alox Pioneer for Christmas this year.

It's my first full size alox Victornox knife.
I do have a small cadet (I think) alox.
The alox just feels right, I have quite a few knives of various makes and models.
But the alox Pioneer feels just nice in my hand, solid, well made and nice.

This is my new favourite carry.

But I must admit, I'm seriously looking at an alox farmer x for my collection.

:iagree: The Alox is sturdy and just feels solid and reliable. Welcome to the Alox rabbit hole  :D

My latest Pioneer. Wasn’t sure about the black, but I really like. It is a dark and saturated black

Nice find SVL! Have one myself, the poor man’s Black Beauty, and given the price of the last BB I saw, I’ll stick with one of these!

Thank you, Mr. Frailer; you are too kind.  For those not wishing to read the entire article, here is the picture (I think) I have there of the Swiss Rail Soldier (commonly referred to as the Black Beauty) and the red shield Pioneer (which I dubbed the Poor Man's Black Beauty).

And here are a couple bonus shots I found comparing the two.  Note the thickness of the implements, among other differences.

I like the thicker tools on the Pioneer, but that old red shield on black Alox is just

The thicker, sharper-edged tools are the Swiss Rail Soldier!  The Model 1961 rules.

Had to be done. I'm working on including the four main knives that are actually issued to the Swiss Army, as part of my collection.

I was searching through my alox collection today, and decided to take a few shots of my favorite Pioneer. While I've carried a variety of SwissChamps the last three years, this particular Pioneer remains the only single knife to ever capture the coveted EDC spot continually for 3 years straight. Such an amazing knife.

It was a time when I'd just become a new dad, and my knife collecting hobby had to be temporarily put to the side. I needed the lightest, smallest "scout pattern" pocketknife, that could handle the constant use and punishment of a very hard and busy life. Of the probably 50 scout patterns in my collection at the time, this Pioneer got the nod.

I bought this one, already well used by the previous owner, from eBay, somewhere back around 15 years ago. Back when a good functional old cross cost you about $30.00. I guess the knife is slightly anomalous, having a Big-V tang stamp and brass liners. So the birth date must be pretty close to 1985? But I'm no expert.

I was sorting through the collection yesterday and took a few minutes to get re-acquainted with this pair. I should probably try to hunt down an all-silver example one of these days to complete the set.
