Rumor has it that the first pioneer descended through the mists of the Swiss alps in the year 1957, immediately raising the bar for what a pocket knife could and should be. From the sleek equal end pattern, the robust scales, the almost perfect selection of tools (not too much, not too little) to the great feel in hand, the pioneer has become the standard by which others are judged (at least to me! ;) )

It became the basis for many popular variants from the forum favorite Farmer, the 1961 soldier model, the electrician, harvester, solo and even to the more recent X model. Each variant only adding to the storied history of this fine pocket knife pattern.

So let’s kick this off. Share pictures of your pioneers and join me in celebrating the best knife ever made!

Everyone needs at least one good friend in this life.    My red round awl 1957 Pioneer has a silver companion.  Elinox, old cross, cutaway back scale.  Does it get better?

jaya_man, I absolutely love the patina on those scales, they're perfect for a mod.  I have an old Pioneer that's been modded into a Voyageur (blade, scissors and combo-opener).

I'm curious to know if you made your stag scales?   I am going to attempt to make a set and use them on a 108 mm GAK project I have in mind.   I'd appreciate any tips or advice you might be able to share.  Feel free to PM me if you feel like it.
