Mod advice for acid wash
on: November 08, 2019, 03:28:47 PM
Anybody have experience with ''acid wash'' patina on your saks?
Just received my ferric chloride...

I'm working on a mod with huntsman and pioneer parts I had laying around and wonder if the liners will turn out with a similar patina as the tools and backsprings

Will go in a small rotating tumbler after
 :salute:

Ok hmmm....the tools and backsprings turned a nice mat grey/black after 20min bath in acid and the first two liners just totally melt after 1min  :twak:

The aluminium liners only need a soak or two of 2-4 seconds to develop a similar patina

Now searching for two 91mm saw liners to continue this project :-[

Maybe ask Syph for some spare liners? He´s in the same country and he tears apart saks by the dozen.
I´m following this with interest. And I would not dip the liners in acid, but that´s just me.

Yeah it was a bad idea those liners in the acid...
Before I disassemble a brand new Camper for this project,  I success in making two saw liners by cutting scissors liners to shape.
Will post pics tomorrow, the tumbler made a great job on the tools and backsprings!

The whole point to this mod is that I wanted a slimmer 3 liner sak for pocket carry. So its a huntsman without opener liner, but kept an awl and keyring.
Of course the key ring is important for edc since I'll make a lanyard...untill I can get some D.P. clip maybe

Good question hmmm....
I just tried it and works well, maybe it depends on the medium in the tumbler, I have some medium sized rivers rock in it
