I finished modifications on my Cold Steel Trail Hawk today and gave it a little test.

Looks good, what was the purpose of your mods, and do you like them?

Thanks! I shortened the handle, got rid of the set screw, filed the inside of the head and sanded the handle to get a good friction fit. I also stained and sealed the handle with polyurethane. The head can be removed if needed without the need for tools.

It probably would have functioned fine with just a sharpening but it looks better now and the ability to remove the head is good. I also cleaned up the head with steel wool, soaked it in vinegar for a few days and then cleaned it up again. I think it has a nice patina now.
