Not sure what to say...other than I am devastated.

I thought long and hard on whether I was going to say anything...and decided after much deliberation that this could be part of the healing process.

I am losing my cat. This has been going on for about a week now, and I have noticed my cat slowly degrading to the point where I have an emergency appointment with a local vet for euthanasia. I thought she might bounce back, and I am truly sorry to say that she hasn't. I got Annie with her sister Gracy back in 2011, after almost a year without having a pet after the loss of my male cat. I felt bad that my male was alone most of the time as I am working for a good part of the day. When I finally decided to get another cat, I avowed to get a pair so that they could keep each company. This way, I didn't feel so guilty leaving them for the better part of a day. Well I lost Gracy during March break about a year and a half ago. Looks like I will be losing Annie in about an hours time.  I am also a bit angry as when I noticed she was ill, I tried to get her to see a Vet, but nobody in this city is taking on new clients. I toughened myself for this day, and I guess, I failed miserably. I know that time will heal somewhat...and I am fairly certain this time around that she will be my last pet. I just can't go through these events anymore...if I can help it.

Here they are when I just got them. Gracy is the russian blue, and Annie is the tuxedo.


All I can say is that I am happy I got them as at the time, the pound did not want me to get them. They only had a day left before being euthanized, and they were both 8 years old when I rescued them. I know I should focus on the good like I gave them. Sorry for the sadness. Typing this did help somewhat.  :hatsoff:

I’m very sorry to hear. That’s the hardest part of owning a pet, but thanks to you there life was extended.

You have my deepest sympathies Chako - such a smurfty horrible thing to have to go through. If it of any consolation I think you're doing the right thing - it's best to go out with a bit of dignity through kindness - you'll still have had that time together and the lovely memories there of and nothing can take that away.

Our pets have always been part of our family. Losing them has always been hard.

Cherish those great memories you have of Annie. Be glad that you can be there for her at this dreadful time.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. She purred to her end. She knew it was her time.. Confirming I did the right thing by her. Truth is she was suffering. Now the next hard thing is to put away her stuff. It took me a week before I could for my male cat. Time will tell when it is the right time this time around.

I am so sorry for your losses. Losing part of the family is never easy. They say time heals all wounds, but that sure doesn’t make it any easier right now.

Thank you for doing the right thing for your beloved pet.  It is always hard, and the more we love them the harder it is.   :cry:

A saying I read a while back is worth repeating re euthanasia for a suffering animal:  "Always better to be a week early than a day late"
I waited too long for Heidi, and I've always regretted it.

All you can do now is reflect on the good life you gave Annie, and try to remember all the good times you had together.  Hang in there, it does get less difficult with time.

Well I am home now, and it is very very difficult as the house now seems to be missing a big part. I know this feeling will eventually ease...but right now...is is all encompassing. Going to see how well I sleep tonight.  :ahhh

Sorry to hear that. That is tough. There is just no way around it - it is hard and sad. Pets are family.

They were loved, cared for and enjoyed full cat lives. I'm sure you shared many good times to remember, and over time those will prevail.

Chako I'm very sorry for your loss. I've been through it several times myself and it does not get any easier. At least you did give them both the best life you possibly could have during the time you had with them.

Dan, I am so sorry to hear about your fur baby!  :cry:  You didn't fail miserably, as it's next to impossible to prepare for these times.  The emotions show just how much you loved and cared about Annie.  I wish you peace through this hard time.

It's all been said above Chaks - Very sad for your loss - I loved it that she purred to the end.   :)

Main thing to reflect on is that through your actions you gave her a much longer life - and yourself and her (them) lots of happiness, good times and love.

You know it always amazes me how much we love our pets on this site    :tu:
And it just goes to back up what I have said for a long time:  ....... Good people have pets   !!    :salute:    :D

You know, being dispassionate and detached for a moment:
It is a fact that nearly all pets (maybe except parrots or tortoises!) live shorter lives then we do, so this does happen to all us pet lovers and carers. I think it would be a shame to deprive yourself of future fun and happiness of having another pet. See how you feel in a few months.
