VIC/SAK Survival & Whitling Books
on: November 25, 2019, 12:11:26 PM
Came across two books online, and not finding any reviews or positive opinions on them. The forum search found nothing either, yet am sure others have found these way before me.

So, any comments on these books, or if there are better versions, etc?

  ● Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Camping & Outdoor Survival Guide: 101 Tips, Tricks & Uses

  ● Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Whittling Book

  ● The Swiss Army Knife Book: 63 Outdoor Projects

Thanks. One never really knows all the functions their tools and knives can do, and we are always discovering new methods by trial and error. Am sure the above books are designs to either promote Vic/SAK or to give an overview of using the tool implements.

I have the first one and it's a bunch of fun projects to do in the woods. Have not read the other two.

I have the first two as they are the newest one out. The 63 outdoor project book I do not have. The two I do have are very good and very affordable.

Well, I ordered a copy of Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Camping & Outdoor Survival Guide: 101 Tips, Tricks & Uses from Amazon as it has great reviews, some rather unexpected comments on the good side, so will take a look-see next week.

Was browsing and found this Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Whittling Book, and thought, hmm, dunno. Was about to close the window when a pop-up came stating I would receive a $5 credit for Kindle, so accepted and Amazon claimed the book was $5.99 yet it gave it to me free - and it's on the iPad already. Cool beans! Free eBook! :woohoo:

Sadly was underwhelmed by Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Camping & Outdoor Survival Guide: 101 Tips, Tricks & Uses. It gives more of an offline introduction of the tools, and not much on survival as I was hoping for. Sure, there were some interesting parts about fire making, but not much in the way of survival with a pocket knife as I was expecting.

There was not much in the way of using a pocket knife for survival. Maybe I should see if there is an Air Force survival manual/book for sale, that covers the use of their knife and survival techniques.

The author did cover some basic aspects, yet seemed to try and find ways of the different tool elements, and used the fish scaler for a thorn brush in effect. Guess for $10 I'll hang onto it for offline knife references, but I don't see where the rave reviews are coming from. There's not much in the way of using the knife as what I've seen here on MTO.

Maybe there's more to it, as I semi-briefly scanned each page before heading out to forage for food. Was cheap chicken special today at Albertsons.  :D

I have the whittling book. It's a fun little book with some basic stuff in there. It's far from a comprehensive guide, it's just a taster with facts about Victorinox in it. Cute gift, I wouldn't pay much for it. I didn't, it was a present.  :)
