This comes up every little while and I'm glad it does, reminds us and we get to hear some new views :salute:

All good points made so far, I nod yes and roll my eyes at the same time! :P
Personal preference is key, you like what you like and I agree, all the Big-Boys make good stuff.

Leatherman makes so many models and they seem to listen to what most of us want.
Swisstool quaility is tops IMO you feel and hear it when you handle all of them.

SOG compound leverage and easy tool replacement is wonderful.

Gerber..... ahh look nice and are fun! ::)

What I really like about Swisstool, SOG, and Gerber is "Lifetime Warranty!" Leatherman is 25 years :-[
and don't even tell me they are honoring it longer, it's not in writing and they can stop anytime.

My Leathermans do get surface rust (pic of my Blast last week, not the first time),
but they are easy to clean and I do take care of my tools, I clean and treat them oftenl
I've never had rust problems with Swisstool or SOG.

and don't get me started on LM and Gerber plastic parts!

After borrowing Dave's Blast, I don't think the plastic parts are that bad.

I've never understood what people's problem is with the Zytel! We've debated it do death on here, and other than it makes the tools more comfortable to hold, it isn't really significant.

I used to come here a lot.

Plastic, when used right, is just as durable as metal.  Cant see that being too much of an issue.

I've never had a plastic tool that didn't break over time, and that's my beef.
time, sun do a number on it. Hard strong plastic becomes brittle weak plastic.

Glock? Isn't that a plastic gun? So people can hide them better or that it is more comfy to carry around? Who the h.ll did invent something like that??  :ahhh  Please if you have one (or any gun), get rid of it. Not a lot of good things are  ever came with those things. Please find a less dangerous hobby or get another proffesion if you are a criminal.

Glock's have a polymer frame. I have three Glocks and the polymer frames are extremely tough..

And as for lasting. My Glock has well over 10,000 rounds through it, and no slop. However my Para has less than 5,000 and had to have the slide rails tweeked. So yah the Glock is that good.

What model Glock do you have, John? I've got a G17, G31, and a G37.

G17. That is what I was issued years ago and I still got it. In fact when it was issued glock still made green frames.

People are intitled to their opinion. Though I disagree, I actually have many friends that feel the same.

I really want too buy a gun, not for protection or self defense, just because I love shooting (at big round targets with numbers) and like the smell of used gunpowder. I also feel it very relaxing too clean a gun.
But I have gone a few rounds with the misses about the issue and she is very clear on the point that she don’t want a gun in the house.

I’m just glad that she don’t flips out about my MT, just 4 at the moment. 3 SOG’s and 1 Swisstool that happens too be the misses favorite out of the 4. My favorite is the Powerlock  butt I’m really craving for a SURGE and a Wave so I finely can give Swisstool and Powerlock a challenge. I’m sure tan that I’m going too love the MT from LM like I really love the Swisstool, but SOG will always have a special place in my hart since a Paratool was my first MT and I really like the tools and knifes they make.

In all honesty, I've carried my Leathermans more than my Gerbers, SOGs, Victorinox, and assorted other multitools combined.  Each of them have been used and carried, but Leatherman has been used the most over the last twenty years with Victorinox in a close second....  :D

Not necessarily, some nations are very gun oriented, the US being the obvious example, and some, like most of Europe aren't.

It's not right or wrong, just a question of upbringing and familiarity :)

Back OT a bit... I have yet to see an example of LM's plastics failing even a little bit, while I've seen them survive intentional abuse with flying colors. I've used and abused my Kick harder than any of my other tools, and it still works and feels like the day I bought it. If anyone's actually had a problem with them, I'd be interested to hear about it.

To me the downside of the plastic inserts is added thickness... but since that's intentional (to add comfort), it's hard for me to find too much fault even with that.

I think the thing that puts me off plastic the most is that it's somewhere for moisture to collect and turn to rust (regardless of the manufacturer!) :-\
