I hope I get an axe in my stocking tomorrow...

The 50ft tall silver birch at the bottom of our garden fell over this afternoon, and landed on our garage.  Bugger.

That's not good... But it looks to not be too bad. Think it'll take a chainsaw to clean that mess up.  Hope your insurance covers it if anything's damaged. Our Nationwide agent has, as of late, become a total arsehole, and many have switched to other companies because of it. Only reason my folks have stuck with him is the fact that due to being with the guy for 40-something years,  they pay no deductibles.

A Stihl FarmBoss was on my Christmas list--and the first thing to get rejected.  What we have is mostly small homeowner saws.  A chain for the 30 or so year old 011AV (which I prefer to the newer MS250, because the cheap carburetor design on the MS250 is known to be flawed, and the engine floods constantly) I guess I'll get with Christmas money. And, I need to get the electric chainsaw sharpener my Granddad bought and never used running to save some cash. Chainsaw chains aren't cheap!

Thanks fellas.  Roof's smurfed and I think the wall the tree is resting on is too.

Unfortunately the roof panels are asbestos and the insurance co's tree surgeons won't come out until the debris is removed.  The asbestos removal guys won't come out until the tree has been made safe.  I'm sure you can see the problem here...

It's a christmas nightmare! Nothing you can't sort out with a Swisschamp.

In all seriousness though, what a bind. If you need a hand let me know. I have an axe and a Swisschamp.

Can the dopey tree surgeons not put up a couple of props until the asbestos is removed?

Can the dopey tree surgeons not put up a couple of temporary props until the asbestos is removed?

Not without the proper authorization. And the authorities are on Holiday break......

I dunno what the plan is. Assessor will be coming out on the 3rd January with the insurer's building contractor to take a look. In the mean time I have to leave it as is.  It's all insured, and I'll be able to claim for any water damage on top of that caused by the tree.

Thanks for the offer of help, Luke. I doubt there's much that I (or we) can do, but I'll let you know.  :like:

That's encouraging, if you're lucky he might be certified to remove asbestos roofing (I don't think it's as hazardous as the sort you get in old bathrooms etc...) and he can hopefully prop the tree without getting a structural engineer involved... hopefully... fingers crossed.  :tu:

Merry Christmas by the way.
