I had to buy my own axe.  :D Well - a splitting maul and a wood grenade. Had a fun afternoon splitting and stacking about 3/4 m³ of firewood for next winter. That's only about 1/4 of what's there though, so I'll need to keep at it.

Brief update...  Building contractor has declined the work, so the insurance co has paid out a cash settlement for me to get it done.  I'm going to do it myself, and the money leftover after doing the roof is going towards new garage doors, upgraded electrics, a new floor and finally insulating and lining the inside. :tu:

Thats a bummer the contractor declined the work.  Must be nice to be busy enough to turn down the money?

Good you got the cash to do it yourself.  Sounds like you're gonna be able to get quite a lot done since you wont be paying labor  :tu:

Here's what it looks like now.  Have got enough stuff out of it so I can get started taking the roof off.  Hopefully the replacement panels will arrive later this week.

Wish my garage was as tidy as that

But I guess I don't want a tree through the roof to force the tidy-up!

I should have taken a photo of the cellar, where I'm storing the stuff that was in the garage.  It's a smurf-tip!

Progress has been made.

This is what the tree surgeon left me with.

Turned it into this (actually about twice that much once I'd chopped the remains of the stump and some other bits that were lying around).

Winching the stump off the wall so it could be chopped up further.

The beginnings of what the kids called the junk pile.

Started to get the roof panels off.  They're 40kg each (for a complete sheet) and took a fair amount of effort to move and wrap on my own.

Knocked out the broken blockwork so I could patch the cracks.

The ever-expanding junk pile.

Roof off, new timbers going in - to fix the roof down onto, to support the wall to the left and to hang the new ceiling from.

Junk pile and all the asbestos got collected (today!).  :woohoo:

First four roof sheets went on this afternoon.

It's forecast to rain tomorrow for the first time in weeks, so I had to get a few done to protect what's left in the garage.

Need to finish the roof next, then I can move on to doors and the electrics.

Roof is now on.

Not quite watertight yet, but drying out inside.

Still a big list of smurf to do.  Electrician coming soon to do the first fix and I've ordered the flashing, timber and insulation to let me finish the roof.  Garage doors still TBC...

Oh, yes.  Working in the back garden is ok for now, but want to get this done before winter.

I have to!  It had a preservation order on it, so I need to replace it.  Not with the same kind of tree though.
