Day 18: Tac-Force Razor Stonewashed assisted-opening Cleaver

This is one of my only "Tacti-cool" knives. It's a cheap (Currently $17 on Amazon) knife, but is of surprisingly good quality. It's heavy, it's long (9" end-to-end when opened), it's sharp, and it just feels well made.

This knife is heavy. At 8.8 ounces, it's heavier than an MP600 by almost an ounce (0.8oz). The scales and liners and blade are all extremely thick, there is just a ton of metal here. It's long and fits the hand well, and all the edges are nicely rounded. The pocket clip works well, the handle incldues a lanyard hole and a glass breaker. (Though it's just stainless, no tungsten). The blade itself is assisted opening.

I bought this as a camp knife, and I keep it in a pouch on my motorcycle. It's been in high humidity, rain storms, and exposed to the weather in a leather pouch since 2018, and there's not a speck of corrosion on it. So that's a pleasant surprise from an inexpensive knife.

The thing I really like about this is the heft. When I flick it open, the assisted opening spring SNAPs it open with authority. The knife itself feels beefy enough to be used to chop wood, as a miniature axe. It's an all around interesting, fun knife for use at the campsite. It even works passably at meal prep. (It's certainly sharp enough). I don't EDC it because of the weight, and because I generally dont' like to look tactical in any way. I usually prefer more unassuming knives that don't get peoples' hackles up. But man... I'm glad I made an exception for this thing. It's really fun to use.

So today I'm going to EDC it all day, despite the weight :)

Charles.

Day 22
Used the Victorinox Cybertool L aka CT41 to dismantle an old harddrive.

For me the CT41 is like a modernized SwissChamp. I miss the magnifier sometimes.

I do like the top one.
I’m keeping an eye out at present for a couple of CRKT’s the Sakimori and Shinbu. Both discontinued.
These both look like "Kaiken" type of Japanese short knife/dagger, pretty interesting offering.

Day 17: Ozark Trail Multi-Force

I missed yesterday, so I'm posting late. My bad!

I used this tool all day yesterday. It's heavy as balls, but it's a great tool and I prefer it to the Wave.  Why? The bit driver for starters. Full-size 1/4" bits is a big deal, there's a much larger selection of double-ended bits than there are Leatherman bits. I also prefer the way the blades open on the opposite pivot, so everything can be tightened and adjusted perfectly. This also leaves out a lot of complicated locks that Leatherman uses to ensure the blades don't open in pliers mode. With the blades on the opposing pivot... they just can't. No extra intricate lock needed. It comes WITH a pocket clip, a case, and an extension for double-sided bits.   Here is my EDC setup. I keep the extension and a rail of WiHa double-sided bits on a rail in a little mini sheath I got somewhere. That goes in my back pocket, and the Ozark gets clipped into my front right pocket.

(Image removed from quote.)

Here's the bit kit all attached.

(Image removed from quote.)

Here's the sheath and storage for the bit extension (I don't use this setup, but I do store it this way)

(Image removed from quote.)

And here's the tool all opened up

(Image removed from quote.)

Charles.

It is interesting to see MT with 1/4 bits.  I actually think the Klecker design on having a moving lug to secure the blade in the chassis is genius, but I can see your point of simplifying it to bring down the price point and allow more room.  Using regular hex is also a good choice, at least it allow easy adjustment of the blades retention, which is actually a more pressing issue than worrying about blades coming out while pliers in use(in my mind).

Day 22 (Happy Anti-Fascist Struggle Day!):

Today's carry is the delightful Case Barlow:

Razor sharp edge on this knife. I like both the pen and the main blade, although the orientation means that I open the main blade most of the time and it does most of the work. I'd love to see this knife in a larger size. A main blade size, with appropriate handle, of 3"-3.25" would be excellent. Nevertheless, for EDC purposes, this little gem is more than adequate.  :tu:

McStitchy- I’m with you there, a magnifier is so handy and the rather expensive solution is the Cybertool Lite - mine is just a CT41 mod now as I used the lite/mag layer to add to a compact to create my InvesTigator (which will feature later in this challenge! Or a SwissCard lite which also has a mag - a good companion to the aloxes too for that matter as it adds scale tools and a light!

You guys are going to cause me to get a divorce.   Now I'm wanting to start a CASE knives collection as well.  Those scales are beautiful, Nix!
And YES!  Happy Anti-Fascist Struggle Day!
They say the pen is mightier than the sword.   However... there is a dead guy here with a Bic in his hand and a Samurai walking away.

Two different knives and brands from the same year. ‘72.

Between yesterday and today, two very nice Pumas.  I’ve seen very few outside the one I have that was my Grandfather’s.

If you're interested in a comparison to the Wave, this video is a very thorough and detailed review/comparison:

For $37.77, with a sheath, pocket clip, and extension, it comes in around $100 cheaper than the Wave for very, very similar quality, and in my opinion better functionality.

It's perfect for a gift for someone who is not into multitools or knives, perfect for gloveboxes, and also perfect for EDC (except for being a bit on the heavy side).  It's a great all-around tool and I really enjoy using it.

Charles.

Unless my sense of scale is off, it looks too small to be a spearhead. Wrong shape for an axe......
