Day 04:

Today's carry was busy today!  This Herbertz lock back did everything from clipping twine and some light pruning in the garden to opening parcels and even a package of peppermint candies.

(Image removed from quote.)

This mid-sized Herbertz nicely fills the gap between the Buck 112 and 110. I was most fortunate to receive this beauty from our own McStitchy.

(He is old now and carrying a heavy beast like this has become a bit much for him. He wanted to see it used and so passed it on to me. (I think I got most of the story details right, there.... ))
I like the nice deco at both the pommel and the bolster, looks fancy.  And the back story that goes with it! :like:

Day 4. Needed a few tools, but didn't want to carry knife and MT; and decided to carry a SAK that is normally in my collection, but apparently, last time I had it out, it got put in a lunchbox alongside EDC's on top of the cabinet.  It is my third oldest SAK (I have a small one-bladed red Grilon Wenger Tahara from the '20s, and a 1942 Soldier that are both older), but my oldest 91mm.

It is a 1957-1961 Victorinox 236maU. Basically a Ranger, but made before most of the models had names. This came in a "junk lot" I paid about ten bucks for.  The only real issue--all liners are cracked at the center pin, which has reduced snap. This is a common issue. But, the rest of the tools show normal wear and tear. Even the scissors still have the original spring.  The only thing I will criticize is that the main blade was probably sharpened with a too coarse sharpening stone; and somewhat poorly. Has the typical bail chip.  And yes, tweezers are original. No toothpick however--but who uses that?

(Image removed from quote.)
10 bucks for a 'lot' including this?  What a steal! :o

Wasn't the top one actually basically a Bantam with Wenger stamps and logo? In other words, not a Gourmet or whatever the Wenger equivalent is?

DAY 5

Well I might as well stay with Ka-Bar again so here’s today’s carry. Bob Dozier design , this knife is so light but so sturdy. I carried it for at least a couple of years in the top pocket of my Coastguard shirt. It never let me down.

Today's carry was a knife I picked up while deployed to Afghanistan way back when . No huge chopper here, just a useful small , clipped on your pocket git r done kind of deal , the Gerber Ridge. ( which I believe is a rip off copy of the crkt k.i.s.s by ed halligan)

I have both a Gerber Ridge (w/o serrations) and a CRKT K.I.S.S. I like the Ridge better. It used to be my box opener when I worked in warehousing.

This one got me into Case knifes... a gift from Nix  :hatsoff:

A Case Mini Trapper with Bone Stag scales and Clip/Wharncliffe blades.

The clip point is mostly getting used for small food prep tasks, while the Wharncliffe is a nice allrounder.
I find the Tru-Sharp™ Stainless steel Case uses has a better edge retention than what Victorinox got on their SAK's.

Thank you!  It's actually from the same company that created Megazord, but this one is Voltron.
This is made by a third party brick company and the look is so unique, I can't resist getting one. :D

I like the Laguiole look, but I find them somewhat unbalanced. One thing I don't like is how they don't stay stable, when you're using them to eat a meal and you put them down in your plate. They awlways tend to roll, until the blade's edge is pointing up.

Day 5: Keeping up with the less seen knives here, I present you the french Wichard 10122. Offshore Sailing Knife - Partially Serrated Blade + Spike + Shackle Key. The handle is GID. Only takes a few moments in the sun to provide a very strong glow for quite awhile.

Awl 3 tools lock, with no play whatsoever. To release them, you have to open any another tool at 90º. That releases the lock. Except for the blade. To unlock it, you need to open the other two tools simultaneously at 90º.

(Discontinued model)
