September may not be the best time for me to participate. I may be travelling internationally for my Dad's 70th birthday. Somehow I don't think I'd get through airport security with the excuse of "but I'm doing the MTo Nessmuk Challenge!"

I'm in.

I will try to do it with what was, or is at least close to, what was available in Mr. Sears day. Basically, because most people didn't carry SAKs or LMs until relatively recently.  I have a Boker Moose, which, as I understand, is about as close as one can get to the pattern shown in the illustration. But, I will go with the Bear and Sons Remington Scout--since it does give me some tool capability--I have an original from the 1920s, but it's in really rough shape.   Fixed blade--I'm going to buy a Green River Dadley soon, but may use an old butcher's knife my great-Granddad used when butchering hogs (plus, it has a lanyard hole on the back). Axe, I may go with one of the modern reproductions of the Marble's Safety Axe. Most likely, the #3 with a polymer handle, since the wood handled ones are so danged expensive.

I have been thinking about my choice also...I would like to use my Randall Survival knife but that wasn’t around back then. Still thinking on it. The design is over 50 years old.  :dunno:

Traditional or modern interpretation?

A traditional approach is appealing, but then I think about having a can opener and small scissors.......

Great to have you, Cody!  I think it's pretty cool someone wants to stay traditional and challenge themselves with the similar kind of tools Sears might have used back in the days, and I think it will be a good comparison to different modern interpretations of the Nessmuk Trio. :tu:

I think a lot of tech in knife and tool industry nowadays don't exist back then, but this challenge certainly welcome modern interpretation of the Trio, so if I were you, I probably won't hesitate to put the Randall to use. :D

This would be easy to particapate in, what i would carry is what i have usually carried.
A small hatchet, instead of an axe. It can be battoned better and more efficiently than a knife.
A Kabar Mark II can skin and handle all other field and camp chores.
Toss in a 4 1/2" trapper for smaller critters and table work.

Health wont let me in right now, but i will enjoy following this thread.
Good luck awl.
