Adding 65mm tools to a 58mm SAK
on: January 11, 2020, 07:53:23 AM
I have been wanting to add a couple of tools (awl and eye-glass sd) from a Wenger Pocket Tool Chest to my custom Minichamp for a while now... Finally have the materials and the time to realize this dream...

To start of, this is my Custom Minichamp which I had built a long while back... It has the flat sd combo tool added...

Next, is dismantling the Pocket Tool Chest. The pins are 2mm in diameter.. Has a solid head on one side and a bushing (similar to Victorinox) on the other end... I simply drilled the pins on the bushing end...

Upon inspection, the 65mm tools are longer... It will have to be shortened to the length of a 58mm tool (I used a main blade I had lying in my parts box as reference), relocate the pivot hole and reshape the pivot to closely match the 58mm blade pivot...

I initially determined the new pivot hole location and drilled both tools using a 1.6mm drill bit... This is to allow cutting and reshaping of pivots a little easier...

Next was dismantling my custom minichamp and reassembling everything.

And here is the result... Now my Jedi Mini Tool Chest is complete...

Additionally, I reassembled all the remaining parts from the PTC rather than leave it lying around idle...

I hope this guide can be of help to others wanting to do the same...

It's holding quite nicely thanks! And has almost all that I need... Only one thing more and it'd be perfect, Syph's scale with drawer!

Just something to consider when shaping the pivot, the awl will need to sit higher to clear the sewing eye for easy opening... Don’t ask me how I know...

Did a similar upgrade to my Bladeless 58mm...

Here’s the new tool layout order...

And the finished upgrade...

I took a slightly different take on my version, in case anyone is interested.  Much thanks to this helpful thread!

I combined a MiniChamp, Pocket Tool Chest, Mate, and a custom tool into what I called the the Pocket Workshop.
