LM meets military specifications

I was listening to a Tim Leatherman's enterview in Poland and he told that their tool meets military specification for screwdrivers, knife and pliers.... What does it mean exactly?

Almost nothing.

I've read military specifications, they're just to let prospective suppliers know what the military wants to buy.

It's rarely anything more complex or "higher standard" than what you can buy off the shelf in any retail store - but since the military doesn't shop retail, they publish a "specification" and leave it to suppliers to meet the criteria.

As often as not, the specifications are written to describe an existing product, to simplify procurement.

He may have been talking about the ASME standards that the military uses for the tools that mechanics use.

Normally means built by the lowest bidder, mil spec isn't some magical panacea, it's cheap and dumb grunts like me are less likely to break it.
