Blue Ridge/ Cold Steel
on: January 21, 2020, 07:00:39 PM
New utility knife spotted at Blue Ridge Knives.  Cold Steel is still boycotting SHOT, but thankfully the distributor Blue Ridge Knives is still going to showcase stuff.  Unfortunately, the person Megan spoke to didn't know the name of it.

Looks to me like an interchangeable blade system, with spare blades being stored in the handle.  Could be interesting, although I have to wonder, would it be any bulkier to carry three knives?  That sheath looks pretty big....

Blades don't fold into the handle, do they? I may pick this one up, since BRK is the main supplier for my local cutlery store (for everything that isn't Case, Spyderco, or custom), thus, they'll likely have it. Should be a good beater for rough jobs, but I personally like a folder that has PE and SE blades side-by-side.

I have been wondering that myself- I think it looks like it should fold, but if you check it out on the Cold Steel website it doesn't appear to.

Click-N-Cut, shown by Blue Ridge at the Shot Show!
Soon to be released in 2020, this is an interchangeable blade knife retailing under $20.

Something of note, is that you can sharpen the blades.

I am not blown away or interested in this. It feels really cheap.

Me neither. When I first read "420J2" for blade steel, I decided it was a solid pass. It's practically rust-proof, but I think the only thing holding an edge worse is butter. Why not 1.4034 or 1.4116 like most other Cold Steel budget models?

I like the new Gerber version of it. Not sure, I think it also accepts standard scalpel blades.

It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I hope they aren't marketing it as a utility knife when it uses blades that only fit their tool.   The whole point of utility knives is that you can go buy blades for it from any hardware store on the planet.
