Corkscrew Use - (Pickle) Jar Opening
on: January 24, 2020, 12:23:21 AM
In one of the other topics I said I was using the corkscrew to open jars that don't want to budge. Some people asked how it works, so I made a quick video of it:  https://imgur.com/f4JzMNE

I am doing it one handed, since I have  to hold the camera with the other hand, but it still works. With two hands it is of course faster and smoother. At the end you can see when the seal breaks and the lid bulges.

Hope this helps  :hatsoff:

Wow! That is amazing and very cool.

Do you feel like the glass jar might break?

No, not even close. The corkscrew basically only leans against the jar, that is about the only pressure it has to endure.

Great tip! I've also used a butterknife to do this but a SAK is way more fun

Thanks for giving me another use for the corkscrew! That works similar to a tool I have in my kitchen that looks like a bottle opener but has 2 little things that get under the lip of the jar to slightly bend it loose. So now I can throw that tool away. lol

My most common use of the corkscrew is with avocados. I often eat an avocado for lunch. When you cut it in half, you have to remove the big pit from one half. You just screw in the corkscrew and pull it out. Of course you can use the knife or the awl to remove it, too. But the corkscrew works best.  :D

I would have never thought of that use of the corkscrew.

Thanks for sharing the video!

What a great idea. Thanks for sharing!

I sometimes use the corkscrew for unplugging hollow bars. Our horses eat hay (like most horses...) and after a while the little leftovers clog into the hollow bars of the feeding rack.
Just screw in the corkscrew and remove the plug!

Nice uses, Robert and EMZ! Might have to try the Avocado one. I normally use a spoon for that, but corkscrew sounds more fun :D

Good work, RP!

When I saw the "corkscrew opens pickle jar" idea I could not grasp how it worked but that video just blew my mind! I tend to think of the complicated solution rather thanthe simplest, but hey, that is how I am wired.

I don't each a lot of pickles but I do open many jars and sometimes they just will not budge. But not any more . . .
