Drill/tap plier jaws
on: December 09, 2020, 09:48:29 PM
Has anyone successfully drilled and tapped the plier Jaws on there supertool 300? Similar to the 300M supertool.

If the jaw  material is 400 stainless steel. Then I should be able to drill and tap 8/32 threads into the side of the pliers to add a cleaning Rod attachment.

Anybody have any thoughts on this subject?

Never thought about drilling into plier heads

Don't believe I have ever seen anyone do that either ???

If you do it and able to tap it then please let us know how it goes :tu:

Also welcome to  :MTO:

I emailed leatherman to ask what stainless they use for the plier jaws.
I was at lowes last night and looked at tap/drill bits. $6 for a n.29 drill bit with an 8/32 tap.
Just waiting now. Hopefully I hear from them soon.
I'll definitely keep y'all updated I do it.

I like the tool on the 300M model. And I keep my 300st with me when i shoot. Just seems like a cool idea and something to mod more importantly. Lol

Doesn’t the 300M have standard pliers?

Leatherman representative emailed me back and informed us all that the plier heads are indeed 420HC on all plier models.

Adding the threads to the pliers head on heavy duty LM should not be an issue. Little patience goes a long way while drilling and taping.

If I do the mod, I'll keep y'all  posted on how it goes.

Or if someone else gets to it before me. Please share.

Good to know that they are the same type SS as the restbif the tool and I hope you are able to drill and tap it to make it work like you want  :like:

Ah, I thought that you meant that you were trying to add a cap crimper similar to the 300 EOD. My bad

If i'm correct, i remeber there is  Charge with 154CM blade and for that one i remeber it was stated that the plier is also from 154CM.

is it possible it meant that the replaceable wire cutters are 154cm?

ok cool,
Not trying to be controversial. but I own the charge+ and got it for the reason of both the cutters and blade are 154cm. And I'm still contemplating drilling and taping my 300 ST plier head. lol. I'm confident in my ability. But do I really need it though. That's the question.
