Which sheath?
on: February 21, 2020, 12:27:59 PM
I'm after a sheath to hold all the items shown in the picture below: Spirit (sometimes Wave), Spirit wrench, Topeak ratchet, Knipex 125 and 4" adjustable spanner.

What suggestions do y'all have?

Price is a main consideration.

Hoes it have to be 1 sheath or is 2 an option? If the latter, maybe a Spirit sheath (the one with space for the bit set and handle/ratchet) and a regular Swisstool sheath for the longer items (both nylon)?

If only 1, maybe one of the Skinths with side pockets...
Cheers!

Thanks DT. I'll exhaust the possibilities of one sheath before going on to other options.

Is the medium nylon Leatherman Wave sheath with the extra pockets big enough?

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same wave sheath, but I highly doubt it. It hardly stores a wave and a 2D bit kit.

Have you considered something like this.

Hmmmm, thats something to consider. I have a FAK in a pouch like that so will try it out for size. Its a bit larger than I wanted but never say never. Never.

My toolkit has quite a bit more in it, but I use a Condor Sidekick to hold 125mm Knipex Cobras, Channellock E318 needlenose pliers, surgeon's hemostats, Vise-Grip 6LN, Knipex 250mm Combination Pliers, an electrician's knife; LM Squirt EL, 6" adjustable wrench, tire pressure gauge, a 2XAAA Maglite, tweezers and a pen. I don't have a photo; as working on the spring water box to the house in the mountains the other day, I think I left it in the UTV.

Oh, Maxpedition has been having a pretty good sale (buy one, get one free) on their pocket organizers this week. The Condor Sidekick was supposed to fit into my leg pocket of my cargo pants--but, it's a bit too big for that--and loaded down--it's heavy! One of these will probably suit you better.

I have a Condor Molle Gadget Pouch that is similar to the what enki linked.  Its not tall but sticks outward.  I'll snap a pic in a bit as its on my work tool belt.

What I will add to the conversation is, one sheath maybe a tight fit and smaller profile but might also be all tools squished in.  Putting tools in and taking them out potentially could be annoying as they'd be closely fit in  :dunno:.

A Maxpedition Micro Pocket Organizer might be an option as well.  Theres no belt loop but you can find a work around  :tu:.  I dont have all tools you do but I know the Knipex will fit as I've seen pics.

Its a great little pouch.  It can fit in a cargo pocket and back pocket if not stuffed.

Have you looked at bushcraft style possibles pouches, Luke? It'll be "one big pocket" rather than compartmentalised, but that might help keep the bulk down.

If you need any leather, let me know. I bought a bag of offcuts from an upholsterers, and ended up with way more than I need.

I was after the same thing and tried dozens of different sheaths, from Leatherman, Gerber, maxpedition etc, to custom sheaths.
The problem was either they were too small or too large. To get what I wanted to carry in a sheath it was the size of a brick and I couldn’t carry it on the belt. My edc is always changing but it would usually be a main M/T, ie Wave, Powerplier/Assist and then A small AAA torch, Pen/Sharpie, Topeak Rachet and some sort of bit kit.
I tried some sheaths/pouches from Tatonka. I got mine on Amazon, but can be bought from other places online. They have a website-www.tatonka.com.
I bought 2 sheaths, the Tool Pocket In Medium and Large. The Med will fit up to one large M/T- Sog Power Assist/ OHT etc. The Large size will also fit a large M/T plus a torch, pen , ratchet etc.
A Wave/Swisstool Spirit will fit in the Large with room for a ratchet, bit kit and other stuff. Plus it Velcro so is very adjustable.
Made of Cordura and is very well made, better than L/M imo. Plus it’s cheaper!
I adapted my med sheath by adding a dedicated belt loop for a narrower belt. But it comes with horizontal carry elastic straps(which I cut off) and a large built in loop on the back, which had Velcro holding it down so you can run any width belt through and the rest of the gap is held by the Velcro.
Just a nice well made, simple sheath/pouch which won’t break the bank.
I paid £6.99 for the Large size from Amazon.
Advertised size is- 12x7x2.5cm, but there I movement.
Added some pics to show, as I am happy with mine.
Steve.

Cheers Olive
I found this one on the bay and have ordered it - hopefully it'll fit the majority of the stuff I want it for: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Molle-Multi-Tool-Organizer-Pouch-Multiple-Pocket-Plier-Pencil-Holder-Holster-Bag/153673958398?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=453690699015&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648

I will make a custom once I've built my confidence up again.

Reminds a bit of the Skinth Magnum, although at a fraction of the price... Interesting construction details like the Molle loops on the front flap. If it turns out to be too small for all your tools, just add another one  ;) Let me know what you think when you get it, will you mags?
Cheers!
